Question about 1999 Audi A4
Recently purchased 99 Audi A4 1.8T the keyless entry remotedoes not work. Owner stated battery was dead in remote. But we are able to lock doors with key at all. The only way to lock car is thru the trunk.I am not sure if keyless entry bettery is dead? Needs to be reporogrammed? or if its something more severe? Have never owned an audi before and need some insight. Thank you.
Are you saying the car won't lock with the key in the driver's door?
Does the Central locking pump work ok?
The test is to sit in the car with the doors closed and the ignition on and press the door central locking switch (located just in front of the driver's interior door handle).
If this fails, there's a problem with the pump - repair or replace (replacement will need coding/adapting).
If the door locks with the switch, but does not with the key (assuming key turns in the lock), it'll be a lock micro switch. I don't think these are replaceable on their own. You may attempt cleaning it, or replace the lock assembly.
Is there a key lock on the passenger side? Does that work? Odds are both failing are pretty remote...
Otherwise do as George says and try to get the remote working.
Does it only have one? They came with two and they're quite expensive to replace...

if you can drop back seats you can get in and manually flick the lever when it is open you will have to go to dealer to see if you can get a key to match or you might get 1 in a junkyard. if this helps please rate me

It needs to be adapted using dealer scan tool or if you know someone with VAGCOM. Make sure you have all your remotes. When performing this.
