With the title and an insurance card your dealer can cut a new key by the VIN if you have never replaced the lock cylinder before. If not it will be remove the column covers, drill out the lock and try not to damage the lock housing. Good Luck

You will need to take the plastic covers off of the column first. There will be a 2 wire switch and a 3 wire plug on the housing. Disconnect the 3 wire plug, and then the 2 wire switch is a small white switch on the top of the housing. Use a small flat blade screw driver to disengage it from the housing while twisting it clockwise. Take a chisle knock the head off of the lock cylinder, where the key goes in. Use a 3/8 drill bit to drill out the tumblers. There is a small steel ber that the tumblers ingage/disengage. You will need to use a pick to pull it down into the hole then you should be able to turn the cylinder with plyers to remove it. Just drill straight and do not drill to deep. If I can help let me know. Good Luck

How do I change the ignition cylinder on a 97 Chevy c1500 if can't turn key to on/run.

You need to remove the steering wheel , turn signal control and in the steering column you will find a pin that holds the tumblers in place for the key switch. You can remove the pin and then remove the key tumbler and replace it. Go to You Tube and they have videos on just what you need to do to remove the steering wheel and etc. Hope this helps.

Wiring diagram for the ignition switch on a 2000 chevy s10 ?

Unfortunately, you will not be able to do that. The key and tumbler are an intricate part of the vehicles "anti-theft system. If the ignition switch or tumbler is broken it will have to be replaced and the theft code relearned. When the key is turned in the tumbler, the switch reads the key code and sends the code to the BCM. The BCM verifies the code is correct and sends a start message to the ECM and allows the engine to start. With out that code verification, the engine will not start.

sounds to me the rod from key switch to starter/ign switch is not where it should be. it probably slipped out when you had the key switch out. 23075457-awhy2tj3hoeu5futbuxdq4rw-3-0.png

1996 chevy suburban ignition tumbler will not turn

Is it not turning to start or won't turn back to lock?

I had that problem on a '97 S10 and it was a loss of accessory power. That locked the switch where it wouldn't turn off.

Anything wierd happen on the car or any recent repair work?

Cant get key switch out of housing, on a 1974 chevy pick up.Trere are no screws or clips visible.

If you mean remove the ignition tumbler from the steering column, you will have to remove the steering wheel and lock plate, then you will need to remove the turn signal lever and screws, and then pull the turn signal switch up and out of the way, you should then be able to see the housing for the ignition tumbler down in the steering column. Look at the tumbler housing and there should be a small slot towards the end of the housing that you can put a small standard screwdriver into and depress a locking latch that is built into the tumbler. When this latch is depressed you will be able to pull the ignition tumbler straight out of the column.

How to remove key switch 1998 buick

This requires a couple of special tools, you'll need a steering wheel puller set with a lockring removal tool.Remove the steering wheel and horn wire connection. Remove the locking ring from the steering shaft. Now, with the key inserted in the key tumbler, turn the key to the run position. After doing this you'll be able to push in the key tumbler locking pin located near the base of the tumbler. If you do not have a key or it is not turning, then it will become necessary to replace the entire collar assembly. The amount of damage that is necessary to turn a non-working key is enough to ruin the collar permanently. Thank You, Dana
