The Ac does not work but now the pulley is starting to lock up and it is going to burn the belt up so i thought i might just put a shorter belt on and bypass AC all together. Can you tell me how

Replace the belt tensioner. Not just the pulley but the complete tensioner.

-Replace new one or remove it and use shorter belt.

If The Compressor Is Not Used To tension The Belt And a Shorter Belt Will Miss The Compressor Pulley When Fitted It Should Work Fine.

I doubt it but I would have to see it in person to say for sure.
If nothing is in the way between the pulley before and the pulley after the compressor, you could use a shorter belt. How much shorter would be something you would have to try to measure.
On the rare occasions when a vehicle comes without ac, the factory puts a dummy pulley in the place of the compressor. I think all Saturn Vue cars had ac.
You say the compressor won't turn, but you really mean the clutch on the compressor ??

When you go to the Auto parts store and get the part. Tell them you don't have AC and install that belt by passing the AC pulley.

The noise you are hearing is the clutch bearings going out on a/c compressor. The problem with removing the belt is that you will have to find a shorter belt for van and be able to reroute the belt in a way to make everything work. It's not likely to work the way each pulley has to rotate, some clockwise and counter clockwise. All the pulleys rotate in a different direction. If you continue to run the van like this what will happen is the clutch will either lock-up or come apart causing the belt to either come off or burn up. Hope this will help you.

well if the ac just deosnt work anymore or is the pulley itself locked up. if the pulley is locked up then yes go ahead and get a bypass belt, but if the compressor itself deosnt turn on and the pulley still turns u dont need to do anything to be able to drive the vehicle other than to check the pressure in the ac system u probably have a leak that has tripped the low pressure sensor that protects the compressor by not allowing it to turn on

u do not reroute the belt u buy an ac delete pulley, remove the compressor and install pulley where compressor used to be, contact ford for the pulley. very easy job.

You answered your own question? Fix the compressor! What state are you in? Do you need A/C? if not, bypass the a/c and use a shorter belt, if it does not interfere with anything.
