Question about 1998 Saturn SL
My 98 Saturn SL2 stalls often, but not always. It started a few months ago when it seemed to stall after it had been idling for a while. The stalling stopped for a while for a few weeks but suddenly started stalling more frequently, and inconsistently. Thought it might be related to engine temp, but it stalls even when the temperature is at 1/4. Sometimes, will run fine for a day or two, then stalls 4 times within 10 minutes, especially AFTER highway driving. It has stalled on a highway, but only once. Usually only stalls when I am going under 30mph or idling. The diagnostic code reads P1635. First I had the throttle body and AIC cleaned, then the coil packs and ignition module cleaned, checked the wiring, then replaced the crank position censor, and then replaced the ignition module. Please Help. I am desperate!!!!!!
I had a problem with starts on my 98 sc2, did it twice only, but it would start up, shake a bit then shut down like it wasn't getting fuel, or a wrong mixture. Replaced the coolant temperature sensor and starts / idles like new now... goodluck

The 5 volt reference circuit provides a signal voltage to the linear EGR, MAP sensor, and TP sensor. The return line is grounded through the PCM. DTC P1635 detects a short to ground in any of the 3, 5 volt reference circuits or inside the PCM.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The 5 volt reference is monitored whenever the ignition is ON.
DTC P1635 will set if the 5 volt reference signal is below 3.5 volts or above 5.5 volts. This voltage is monitored internally by the PCM.
If DTCs P0563, P0108, P1106, P0452, P0453, P1122, or P0122 are set, a short to B+ on the 5 volt reference circuit is probable. If the short exists while attempting to diagnose, PDT communications will be lost and driveability conditions will exist.
