Tip & How-To about Cars & Trucks
Resetting a Vehicle Anti-Theft System This is how you reset an anti theft system if you have the anti-theft light on, or your car is cranking, but you have no spark.

Doing a full reset of the anti-theft system.

Disconnect both battery leads for at least two hours.
Hold the negative and positive leads together for 5 minutes to fully discharge any power.
Put the key in the ignition, but not turned on. VERY IMPORTANT!
Connect the positive lead.
Connect the negative lead in one swift movement.
Wait 15 minutes for the system to fully reset.

2006 Mini Cooper turns over won't start. Replaced battery couple days ago

You disconnected the battery and upset the antit-heft immobilizer because you didn't reconnect properly!

Number 1 tip when changing batteries is to keep the power to the vehicle using jump leads, a battery minder, or just two lengths of wire.

it sounds like the anti-theft module needs to be reset so it won`t go off when it shouldn`t.the module thinks the car is being stollen as it went into anti-theft mode and needs to be reset.usually the light for this problem(gross vacume leak) will reset on its own when the computer goes through its test procedure for the evap system and detects no fault.
