A 1285 code is when your cylinder head gets too hot. You need to use that bleeder fitting when filling the car with antifreeze

SOURCE: My 2001 ford windstar lx van smells like coolant when i drive

Several things to check. Have the cooling system pressure checked. A quick and simple test. Puts system under pressure and helps to locate a leak. The coolant doesn't just go away, it's got to be leaking either externally or internally. Be sure that the radiator cap is checked too. It needs to maintain the proper pressure for the system
Sound like coolant is leaking on the exhaust system. This can result in the smell and you will not see a leak as it is evaporating when it hits the hot pipes.
Good Luck

SOURCE: 2003 ford mustang, overheating, check

This problem could be fixed by a new thermostat, however if this does not fix it then you may need a new head gasket or some deeper motor work ( which is why they want to do a new engine) most shops these days do not want to get onto motor work, the reason being is, it is expensive and timely, and often makes the shop "resposible" for every little problem that happens to the engine afterwards which isn't worth the trouble.

Check engine light came on. Gave the codes P1285 and P0125. I put coolant in my 2001 rodeo isuzu but it won’t shift after 20 mph. I also changed the ACG-S and O2 heater sensor fuses. What can be the reason...

code p 0125 refers to insufficient coolant temperature for closed loop fuel control===causes ---wiring --- cooling system---coolant thermostat---ECT sensor---ECM
code p1285 for isuzu refer to accelerator pedal position sensor 3 circuit
the accelerator pedal position (APP) sensors are located within the throttle actuator control (TAC) module assembly
The TAC module assembly is mounted to the accelerator pedal bracket
There are 3 individual APP sensors within the TAC module
3 separate signal circuits, low reference circuits , and 5 -volt references circuits are used in order to determine the APP
The APP signal voltage increases when the accelerator pedal is depressed

P1285 code on 2007 Equinox.

Make sure you get any air out of the system. Check wiring and temp sensor connector for damage.

Its smoking and coolant sprays but the gauge never says its overheating.

I'd be doing a test to see if head gasket has gone. cause it sounds like a head gasket

Why is my car overheating?

What can YOU do IF you have no vehicle experience?

Not much

IF-- the only place coolant doesn't go
Then a failed Thermostat

If you have been using it like that, then maybe a major
repair, if it overheated a few times

2002 Lincoln LS overheating

Hi there:Are you check coolant level? Also, there some TSB about some vehicles Lincoln LS 2001-2002 may exhibit an engine overheating condition and/or the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may also be illuminated with codes P1285 and P1299 stored in memory. This may be caused by an inoperative Hydraulic Cooling Fan (HCF). Ask your dealer about TSB Article No. 01-21-11 / 10/29/01.
Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

My 2003 g35 infiniti won't start oil low

I really doubt if your motor siezed up while sitting there. But your battery could have gone dead, or your stater may have locked up, or a battery cable is loose or dirty.
