Question about 1994 Eagle Talon

1 Answer

I have a '91 turbo charged talon. When its cold it runs just fine, but when its hot, it has no power, shakes at idle, stalls and is very difficult to restart. The MIL is not on and I can't scan it, because the scanner can't communicate with it.

Having a problem with my 1994 eagle talon. no

shake at idle means u have a cylinder misfire or low commpression, here are causes of misfires most commonly seen.

The most common misfire causes on the cars I've worked on have been:
  1. Spark plugs
  2. Spark plug wires
  3. Ignition coil
  4. Fuel injector
  5. Wiring to fuel injector
  6. Timing Belt
  7. Vacuum leak or stuck open EGR
  8. Contaminated fuel or bad fuel pump
  9. Weak compression
  10. Blown head gasket

The INFAMOUS DSM Hot Start Problem

Here are a few things to try: 1) Block off your EGR valve. Sometimes these fail, and when they do, this is what happens.

2) Change your vaccum hoses, especially the one going to the fuel-pressure regulator. Sometimes this one leaks and creates problems for the FPR.

3) Change your plug wires. I'd use some MagnaCore wires. They're less $$$ than the stock ones, and they're 8.5mm opposed to the stock 6mm. The stock wires are no good, especially when raising the boost.

4) Clean your throttle body REALLY well. Make it spotless, including both sides of the throttle plate.

5) Clean out your intercooler. Do this by taking it out, dump about a gallon of gasoline into it, then shake it around and dump out. Repeat process until gas coming out is clean.

No power

If the check engine light is on,have it scanned for trouble codes.Diagnose and repair any codes.I have a car very very similar to yours with 188k miles, great car, runs drives great, good mileage,heat,a/c paint, everything, just no power.2.0 ltr sohc,,non turbo, they just weren't very powerful in those days.Mine has new timing belts too,and no diff in the performance before or after.Maybe a true cold air intake might help power a little. Also have the catalytic convertor checked for adequate flow as over the years they can restrict flow a little at a time and dwindle power output.
