Most common cause of this condition is a vacuum leak. The acuator that changes the airflow direction is operated via vacuum.

I have a 2006 ford Explorer when i put the air conditioning on max the air blows out of the defrost

The mode door controls where the air comes out. The door is operated by a vacuum motor. Check for a bad vacuum motor or cracked vacuum line to the motor.

The blower on my 2001 ford experdition is blowing but the windows are not defrosting

Many newer models use the air conditioner compressor as a heat pump to defrost the windows.

Check the freon level on the air conditioning system, or at least bring the vehicle into a warm heated garage and run it just a minute or so to test to see if the AC is working.

Be sure to only run it a minute or so or better yet ventilate the exhaust out of the garage to prevent buildup of deadly carbon monoxide gas in the garage or house.

2003 ford explorer xlt 4.0 ,2 wd is making an air release purging type noise when shuting off the car. it lasts only 5 seconds or so. can any one help

it could be the pressure in the air conditioning system equalizing through the orfice tube. Usually if it's this the noise is most noticable inside the car, probably from the vents. The A/C will run when the defroster is on even if you don't have the A/C on.

A/C controler on Ford F-250 not working. A/C blows but to defrost only, nothing occurs when switching to vent control. Please advise. Thank You.

No airflow at all or just not cold? The AC only runs in the AC , Max or either of the defrost modes to automatically dehumidify the air to reduce fogging. The other positions vent in outside (non conditioned) air.

Why is the Air conditioning and heater on at the same time? It's a 2001 Ford Escape.

Some cars are programmed to work that way, because when the heater plus the air-conditioner are operating at the same time, the car's interior gets warmer quicker. There's always a separate switch and indicator light for the air-conditioner, and you could turn it off if don't like the two operating at the same time.

Air conditioning is on when defrost is selected

That's normal. When defrost is on, it uses AC to remove condensation in vehicle to allow for faster defrosting.

Air conditioning blows through defrost vents only

AC blows where you have your control switch set,if it only comes out your defroster have the vacuum check at the blend air doors or if you have a faulty heater control unit.

Air conditioning blows out of the defrost vents only

If this is the mechanical unit it is possible that the wire in the back has come adrift or the clip that holds the wire in position has come off and now the whole cable is moving.
Have a look at the bottom of the dash where the controls are fitted and move the control at the same time looking if there is any movement below the dash, take it from there
