Is it a plug wire or coil on plug system? More than likely it is a plug wire or a boot for coil on plug. If the latter you should replace all at the same time. Same applies for plug wires if over 60,000 miles. Buy the expensive ones, if you don't you will regret it in 15 to 20 thousand miles.

SOURCE: engine misfires

You didnt mention having changed the spark plug wires, so that is another item that could be culprit as well. As well, it could be a coil pack that is not working properly.

I cannot recall at the moment if that model year uses coil on plugs or if it uses coil packs. Either way, if it uses a coil on plug set up, take the one for the #3 cylinder and move it to say #4 or anyone of your choice and see if the misfire follows

If it uses coil packs, there is likely one coil pack that controls two cylinders. In that case just swap the coil pack with an adjacent one and see if the problem follows. Pay attention to where the spark plug wires go because it will be an issue if you get them mixed up. You just swap the coil packs around.

I would, however, start with the spark plug wires if you have not changed them already.

SOURCE: engine code p0307 cylinder #7 misfire

It could be carbon deposits on valve seats keeping valves from totally closing. You can try getting you a can of motorcraft PM3 top end engine cleaner and get engine up to operating temp then remove one of the small vacuum lines from the intake and draw the contents of the can slowly into the engine. After you have drawn in the contents shut engine off and let it soak for about 45 minutes then crank it back up and let it run until it clears. Now it will smoke like a forrest fire while you are doing this so don't be alarmed, just tell the neighbors you are spraying for mosqitos. This may cure the problem. If not you may be looking at a valve job.
This can be verified with a compression test if this is what is causing it.

i had asimiliar misfire on my 2000 windstar.the first thing to check is a broken valve spring by taking off the valve cover the other is a o2 sensor bank 2 i believe is the downstream.if not the valve spring then either the coil pack or thecontrol module. either way it is fairly inexspensive

What controls fuel delivery to cylinders on 2000 ford explorer mine instantly fouls all spark plugs

Each cylinder has its own fuel injector. If the pin hole size orifices that deliver fuel into the cylinder are gummed up or have deposits in or on them, then the fuel will be introduced into the cylinder as a stream or other unacceptable spray patterns instead of a conical shape. Chevron Techron is an excellent product that really works to clean fuel systems and injectors.

You may also have defective injectors, worn spark plugs, (they may have improper gaps), the wrong spark plugs for your engine, insufficient spark due to defective coils or the coil pack, spark plug wires that have lost their conductive integrity or a fuel pressure issue.
Good luck.

I HAVE a2000 windstar lx with 3.8. just put new plugs&wires cyl #5 IS LOADED with fuel and the cat converter is now getting cherry red

You may as well change the #5 Injector to start with. I imagine you rechecked the spark on that cylinder as well. Could be a cracked sparkplug too. Check routing of #5 Injector wire. If improperly placed it could pickup a pulse to inject from other cylinders and then fire constantly.
Most likely you broke loose carbon in the cylinder head when the plug was removed and then it blew carbon back to the Injector head, blocking it open.

My 2000 Ford Windstar 3.8L won't turn over. The battery is fine, replaced all of the the spark plugs and the air filter is fine. We can hear the fuel pump engage so we think it might be a dirty or...

Air/Fuel/Spark.
To clean a fuel filter you replace it. you can take the injectors off and soak them in cleaner as well but if it will not turn over, you are not getting the starter to work which could be the starter or could be the solenoid that is between the batter and the starter.
If it is turning over, take out a spark plug and hold it firmly to the engine case and crank one revolution to verify your spark plugs are firing. Don't get shocked (not my fault if you do). You should also smell the gas coming from the cylinder and that will help confirm the injectors and fuel system are working.
Hope that helps.

2000 Ford Taurus 6 cylinder with the alternate

i would check the fuel injector o # 5 cyl... if the injector is leaking it will foul the plug out and cause a skip. the next time it happens remove the plug and check for wetness. you may also be able to put a fuel pressure tester on, if so install the tester, turn the key on 2 or 3 times leaving the key in the on position at the end, do not crank the engine, watch the tester for a minute or so and watch for a pressure drop.
