Jeep Comanche 4.0 loses spark

Hi all, I have a 4.0 that on ocasion wont start unless you push startit. Sometimes you have to just pop the clutch and it will start andsometimes you have to go a hundred feet before it starts. Sometimeswhile running it acts like the choke is on and wants to die. We havereplaced the crank sensor and computer but it is still doing the samething. I was told to buy a factory crank sensor not aftermarket as thefirst one didnt work. looking back I dont think the crank sensor orcomputer is the culpret as it is still not starting all the time. Alsowhen cranking it over it has this funny hesitation and if you let offthe key at that moment it wont start when you try again but if you keepcranking through it it will start. Any thoughts? Thanks TAG

Check spark not only need spark, it needs good spark (should bridge at least a 1/4" gap with a strong snap and blue color.) Also, make sure engine timing is correct...If you don't have a "locked distributor" sometimes it may need adjustment. Incorrect timing can make the engine "kick back" when starting, or "lay down" while driving.

My jeep wont start. i put gas in the vehicle, then after that tried to start it and it wouldn't even turn over. the battery still works, but i cant get it started?

I would recommend testing the starter.

A way that can sometimes get it started if it is the starter, is to hit the starter with something. Like a rubber mallet or hammer. Just not too hard, some small hits should do it.

Another recommendation is, if it is a manual/stick shift, then put it in 2nd, hold the clutch, have a friend push the jeep till its going about 5-10mph and pop the clutch while in second. It should start up, if its just the starter.

1987 jeep comanche 2.5L (gas). Engine died

Do you have a rpm guage? If so see is it moves when cranking, if not the crankshaft sensor is bad and is located on top of the transmission bell housing. Also it can be scanned to confirm a faulty sensor

I am assuming that the truck is an automatic. If this is the case then most likely your clutches are going out in whichever gear that it slips in. Try changing the fluid and filter and that may fix it.
