Take vehicle back to dealer ,i suspect that it could be a problem with the power steering pressure switch as this increases the idle when turning ,but it could be something else and without my head under the bonnet and a test drive i have no idea

I have a leak in the power steering column. What will happen once it all leaks out?? can I still drive it?

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. If it leaks out, the steering wheel will be hard to turn. Plus, you will then have to replace the entire steering pump if it goes dry. You need to keep an eye on the level and keep adding fluid as needed. You will still need to get the leak fixed. If you are running low on fluid, the steering wheel will be harder to turn and you will hear a winding noise when you turn the wheel.

This may be from the power steering. Check for leaking fluids underneath. You may also inspect the steering boot for oil inside. It may be bad seals, broken parts or incorrect fluid or fluid may be at the incorrect level.

Power steering goes out randomly

you are 100% right. I have a 2004 avalanche that they want to charge me $250 to replace the intermiediate shaft when they recalled up to 2003 avalanches for this. I was told they thought they had it fixedin 04 but didint, no recall will be issued because it is not a safety issue.

I bought a 2000 Ford and a 1998 Lincoln several years ago, No more GM for me if thats the best they can do. It sure is nice to only have to go to the shop for oil changes.

Check serpentine belt. It may be broken.
If all belts are in good shape and tensioned properly have the car looked at by a mechanic for troubleshooting.
