Question about 1997 Ford Explorer AWD
If it is full of fluid, you may have a broken pump shaft to the converter. Don't forget the visual checks like looking for a broken cable or manual valve lever at the tranny. If you can feel the detents as you shift, it's an internal problem and requires removal of the transmission assembly. Check the fluid level first. Only 2-3 quarts low will cause it not to move.
