300zx auto will have 4 gears. 1-3 are normal running gears 4th is said to be an "overdrive" gear.

shift points should be under 4krpm, with light driving. my 300zx non-turbo usually shifts around 2-3K.

throttle position sensor could need adjustment or replacement. trans fluid should be checked to see if it's in good shape and full.

Why does 1991 nissan 300 zx die when the motor warms up?

Is there a MIL on, what is the code if so. May very well be a coolant temp sensor or connector corroded.

I just bought a 1996 Nissan 300 zx non turbo 5 speed and it won't idle. But when you put it in gear it will idle at like 2000 rpms or if you turn the heater on it will idle at about 1200 rpms. I

Try twinturbo.net. plenty of 300zx enthusiasts and info on that site. Has a tech forum and links to faq. Look around and search. I go there for help on my 93 Z. And no, it doesn't have to be a turbo model.

Car wont rev past 4000rpm, just stutters out and backfires

the ECU is messed up or the Throttle body is clogged.

1991 300 zx tt fouling 1 plug but compression is good

It may have a poor spark on that plug, or it may not be getting a constant spark from the HT lead, check the ignition system in reverse order from that plug. Could also be a valve sticky, periodically cause the fouling of the plug or it may be the oil rings starting to fail on that pot.

Hope this helps.

Cannot get 1991 300 zx (manuel) non-turbo to shift in 1st and third gear

Most likely it is worn synchros. Try changing out the transmission fluid and run Redline MT90 in it instead. The fourth gear synchros were a known weak spot on the Z32 cars, but other gears could also develop trouble. MT90 is known to alleviate a lot of shifting problems related to synchros in the Z, so it's worth a shot.
