Question about Saturn SL2

2 Answers

My 1999 saturn sl2 will not start. It cranks, fuel pump is working but I no spark from the ignition coils or spark plugs. A few months ago the wipers started acting funny (going off when they wanted to) it stop by itself. Then the car started shutting off after running for a while I thought it was because of the car overheating so I replaced the coolant heating sensor and the crank shaft sensor. I have replaced the ignition coils, spark plugs, ignition control module, battery, and alternator. I tested for resistance in the white wire that connects to the igntion coil and it is fine. What could it be?

Sounds like a bad timing chain.

You've got power, but no fire in the cylinders. Why?; because the timing chain is gone; the cam sensor is doing nothing but waiting for something to tell the system when to fire

It could be, and almost definitely is very possible its the brain ( ECU or Electronic control module) Will all the things you said it is doing that is probably the problem. Caution : Computer problems are EXPENSIVE

2006 saturn ion will run fine be drive for while then all sudden will die and won't restart from 10 min to few hours last time replace fuel pump that was not problem still does it any ideas

You need to test ,see what's missing while it won't start . Spark ! fuel pressure test, injector . Pull spark plug wires off same coil , crank engine , is there a spark jumping from one coil tower to the other ? If not the crankshaft position sensor or ignition module is bad . Saturn No Start Case Study featuring Beau Danner I would say just because I know GM ,the ignition module or crank sensor is bad .

Why no spark/start?

The eis is bad. IT is under the coil. Replace it.

Saturn sl2 problems

Have you checked the fuel injectors? Fuel filter? Fuel pump? Sounds to me like you have a fuel delivery problem.

Try the following: remove the airbox and spray some starter fluid into the throttle body while someone else cranks the motor. If it starts for a second and dies, then you KNOW you have a fuel delivery problem. If it doesn't change and still won't start, then the problem is either a bad sensor somewhere (crank position sensor, maybe?) or no compression.

1999 SL2 engine just suddenly dies while vehicle is in motion at various speeds and intervals of distance. (.3 to 1.5 mi ) Just recently began fix-up on this car. Standard ignition tune-up, wires, plugs,...

I had 4 saturns, a bad crank sensor mounted in the block behind the starter was the fix which matched your problem. When you get the starter out, replace it too as you will not want to go in there again.

Won't start. I've replaced the fuel filter, the spark plugs, wires, and ignition coils. Will run off of starting fluid, but not by itself. Checked fuel pressure and it's coming up around 40. What else...

SOUND LIKE FAULTY FUEL PUMP OR BAD PUMP RELAY. IF YOU SPRAY STARTER FLUID AND VECHICLE RUNS.ITS NOT GETTING FUEL..NEXT TIME ENGINE STALL OUT.GET A FUEL PRESSURE READING.DONT TURN ON THE IGNITION .IF FUEL PRESSURE READS ZERO YOU KNOW YOU HAVE FAULTY FUEL PUMP RELAY OR FUEL PUMP RELAY FAULTY.

Could be one or more of many grips.
1. Fuel tank empty.
2. Battery discharged.
3. Battery terminal connections loose or corroded.
4. Leaking fuel injectior(s), faulty fuel pump, pressure regulator, etc.
5. Fuel not reaching fuel rail or TBI unit.
6. Ignition components damp or damaged.
7. Worn faulty or incorrectly gapped spark plugs.
8. Broken, loose or disconnected wiring in the starting circut.
9. Broken, loose or disconnected wires at the ignition coil or faulty coil. 10. Broken timing Chain.
11. Engine coolant temperature sensor defective.
12. Crankshaft postition sensor defective.

Hope this Helps!

I have a saturn sl2 1996,,, it is hard to start i

fuel, oxygen, and spark. Check all of these. Is it getting air. Is your filter clean. Are you getting spark. if not check your plugs wires and coil. finaly check your fuel. Are you getting enough fuel. Replace the filter, make sure you are getting enough psi's before the injectors. also make sure the fuel pump is working.

You will probably need to put your car on a computer scanner.

Let me know what you find.
