Cutting the yellow wire and installing a toggle switch will not do anything , except make the vehicle not start at all ever again . That is the pass lock sensor signal input to the BCM . You have demonstrated your lack of Knowledge of these systems ,Take it to a qualified repair shop
you can't do it!either local locksmith with correct tool or the DEALER.and you will need to take the car with you on a tow truck!it ain't gonna start, until they program it to your car with a special scan tool!
This is a common issue with this car, it's most likely a faulty ignition switch. It could be another electrical issue but I doubt it. Have it's codes checked and look for a security fault. The ignition in this model of car is horrible, just Google around and you'll see. It can be replaced at home but you will have to re-learn the ignition cylinder security, takes about 10-15 minutes for the procedure. The instructions on how to replace and re-learn are on the net, if you take it to a mechanic I wouldn't see them charging longer than a hour to fix it, it could probably be done in less than 30 minutes. I don't recommend using a used ignition switch from a junkyard, it is hit or miss on a good working one. If the security light isn't on or no codes were set I would do more diagnostics before making a purchase.
A common problem is the ignition cylinder and/or the ignition switch. With the buzzing of the relay, i would say all this may be related to the ignition switch. A low voltage supply to any of the circuits that the switch feeds will give strange electrical conditions. If going to replace the ignition switch, then also do the cylinder at the same time. With all things described, sure sounds like the ignition switch. P.S. The locks may be related to the ignition switch problem or not at all. With that said, would suggest looking at the BCM(body control module)It control locks, and also has alot to do with the security system. See picture at bottom of this page of corroded BCM connectors.4- Passlock Ignition lock cylinder removed. Install new cylinder.Try to start- it wont or dies.Leave key on for 10-12 minutes, or until light goes out. Then turn off key for 10 seconds.Turn key to 'on' position for 5 seconds, then turn to start
You need to reset the theft system. To do this, try to start it. It should start and die. Then after it dies and the theft light is flashing, leave the key on for 10 minutes. After 10 min, the theft light should go out. After the theft light goes out, turn off the key. Count to 5, then restart it. Then it should work.
Sounds like you need to have a new ignition switch installed. Copy & paste this link into your browzer: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/catalog/parts/partsShelf.jsp?displayName=Ignition+Switch¤tPage=1&categoryDisplayName=&navValue=16200189&itemId=189-0&parentId=62-0
Disconnect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an air bag, wait at least 90 seconds before working on the vehicle.
CAUTION Some models covered by this manual may be equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which uses an air bag. Whenever working near any of the SRS components, such as the impact sensors, the air bag module, steering column and instrument panel, disable the SRS, as described in Section 6.
Remove the lower steering column cover. Unfasten the ignition switch connector under the instrument panel.
Remove the screws which secure the upper and lower halves of the steering column cover.
Turn the lock cylinder to the ACC position with the ignition key.
Push the lock cylinder stop in with a small, round object (cotter pin, punch, etc.).
NOTE: On some vehicles, it may be necessary to remove the steering wheel and combination switch first.
Withdraw the lock cylinder from the lock housing while depressing the stop tab.
To remove the ignition switch, unfasten its securing screws and withdraw the switch from the lock housing.
To install:
Align the locking cam with the hole in the ignition switch and insert the switch into the lock housing.
Secure the switch with its screw(s).
Make sure both the lock cylinder and column lock are in the ACC position. Slide the cylinder into the lock housing until the stop tab engages the hole in the lock.
Install the steering column covers and connect the ignition switch wiring.
Disconnect battery ground cable. Remove the steering column shroud by removing the four or five self-tapping screws. Remove tilt lever (if so equipped).
Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.
Rotate ignition key lock cylinder to the RUN position.
Remove the two screws retaining ignition switch.
Disengage the ignition switch from the actuator.
Installation
Adjust the ignition switch by sliding the carrier to the switch RUN position.
NOTE: A new replacement switch assembly will be set in the RUN position as received.
Check to ensure that the ignition key lock cylinder is in the RUN position. The RUN position is achieved by rotating the key lock cylinder approximately 90 degrees from the LOCK position.
Install the ignition switch into the actuator. It may be necessary to move the switch slightly back and forth to align the switch mounting holes with the column lock housing threaded holes.
Install retaining screws. Tighten to 5.6-7.9 Nm (50-69 lb-in).
Connect electrical connector to ignition switch.
Connect battery ground cable. Check ignition switch for proper function, including START and ACC positions. Also, make certain that the column is locked in the LOCK position.
If car won;t start, but turns over it may be the anti theft system. Follow the directions in the manual-turn the key on and leave it for ten minutes or until the anti theft light goes out. Turn the ignition OFF and then restart the engine. If you continue to have problems with the anti theft system, disconnect the battery for 4 or 5 minutes and then reconnect. It seems to reset the system. Found this out after a mech. had worked on the system, disconnected the battery and told me it would be 400 to 500 to replace the module. Said no thanks and drove off to never have the problem again (so far!) 10,000 mile since.
