Question about BMW 325

Power windows won't work

None of my power windows are working. Had an intermittent problem with this a couple of times, but if I restarted the car they would work fine. None of the switches for any of the windows work, so I image it's an electrical issue. Any thoughts if there is something other then the fuses that I might be able to check. Thanks.

Dashboard lights and gauges go out, windows won't work

Your alternator is out. Those are classic symptoms of alternating going out. The alternator recharges your electrical system and when it goes out a list of strange things go on inside the dash, and you won't be able to go very far on just a battery. I'm glad you at least made it home. But yes you will need a new alternator for sure. Please rate this response so I can get my ratings back up to 90% at least.

Turns over but won't start radio works has half tank of gas shut off when driving and won't restart

Check the fuel pump, you should hear it cycle every time you turn the key to the "ON" position. If not, check that it iis getting power with a volt meter or power tester. If it is getting power but not cycling, then it may need to be replaced.
Check the coil pack with a spark tester (be careful that the "spark" does not "jump" to you because it will hurt). If no spark, then you will need to make sure it is getting power and signal to work. If it is getting power and signal but not "sparking", then it may need be replaced.
If not getting power to above, then you need to check all the wiring connections. Disconnect and check to make sure is clean inside and that none of the connectors are damaged/broken/melted. Make sure the wires are securely attached to the connectors. Check that power is passing through each connection.
If none of the above apply or work, then it is possible the ECM may be bad. The only 100% reliable place to have it checked is the Dealer as the have spefically made test equipment.

Front power windows work intermittently, fuses are good and has a new main control switch.

Has the window motor been replaced? This is a classic symptom of defective window motor. Next time this happens hit the door panel, if the window starts working again that confirms the problem is the motor. This is not fool proof but in most cases the motor will restart, hit the panel down low a few times.

Your first problem is to find out why the intermittent no-power problem. Honestly, that sounds like a loose conmnection somewhere. check all your grounds for clean and tight conditions Also, battery connections and alternator connections. Double check your power distribution center for any loose wires or poor connections. Once you solve that problem, then you can diagnose the other problems with poor idle and temp. gauge.

You're accumulating problems over time. They're not related.

The heat/air blower fan problem is a bad blower (variable) resistor n the blower fan control.

The power windows are either fuses blown or regulator motors dead - check your power accessory fuses and go from there to check the regulator motors - try junk yard(s) before paying for as new window regulator.

The intermittent feature of the wipers - check/replace the switch that controls this feature (the most likely cause).

THe problem with ALL your dashboard electrical items failing at once, then coming back to life after a restart is a 12V breaker (not a fuse) in your fuse panel - it looks like a relay, but your maintenance manual (Haynes Manuals - $20 everywhere) will identify it as a breaker - its sticking in the "off" state and needs to be replaced, OR I SUSPECT THAT: moisture gets into the car somewhere and causes the breaker to TRIP to prevent the resultant short from burning up your mini-van in a brightly-lit vehicle fire, and when you turn the van on, the breaker is tripped - you restart the vehicle,(which turns out to be the proper procedure to reset a 12V breaker), and the breaker resets, and you drive off with working dashboard controls.
