2001 Dodge intrepid. Battery light came on while driving. Got home turned car off, tried it and it was completely dead. put new battery and fuse in . still just clicking. what else could this be?

Pretty sure your alternator died.
Battery voltage with the car not running should be close to 12.5 volts on a fully charged battery. New batteries need to be charged before they are installed to keep a good alternator from melting down and dying.
With engine running the battery should read about 14.5 volts indicating your alternator is charging. At lower rpms battery voltage will still be above 12.5 volts with the engine running.
If you get it cranked and the battery does not read above 12.5 volts, you have a bad alternator.

What's the voltage reading at the battery with the engine running ? 13 to 14.1 volts ? If not, it's not charging .Sounds to me like it's not charging ! Is there battery voltage at the heavier gage wire on the back of the alternator ? Does the battery symbol light on the dash work ?

Hi again just got a new battery, battery light is still on car is starting, but now whats the problem

The BATTERY light indicates that your battery is not getting charged. There could be several reasons for this most probably your alternator, which generates the current to charge the battery when the engine is running. If the new battery is not getting charged, it will eventually drain not start your car. To confirm that the battery is not getting charged and that is the reason for the BATTERY light, put a volt meter across the battery while the engine is running. It should read around 13 volts indicating that current is flowing into the battery. If it reads 11 volts or less, that means the batter is being drained and not charged. Then have your alternator checked.G

1993 Jeep Wrangler charging problem

nothing wrong with the ECM unless it has the voltage regulator as part of the system
indicates faulty wiring and faulty alternator
have a load test done on the battery
have an auto electrician do a full charging system check
charging voltage should be 14.5-14.8 volts DC
battery voltage should be 12-13.5 volts dropping to 11 volts when cranking the engine
make sure that the drive belt tension is correct and the belt is in good condition

I have a 1976 eldorado that when you disconnect the battery when running the car stalls out I replaced the alternator and battery and after a couple of days the battery died the alternator did not keep the...

A 76, huh, let's see, I don't know if that had the regulator in there or not. It sounds like the alt died, but maybe not. It won't run without the alt. And will only last about 20 mins on a full battery. I would take the alt off and get it back to the store to have it checked. That would be the quickest way to tell, just because it is new doesn't mean it is good. Don't keep on killing the battery, it can only handle so many drains. Hope this helps.

I need to know how to test my alternator without removing it to see if it's working. 1996 Jeep Cherokee Country.

Use a voltmeter to test battery voltage with the engine running. If the alternator is working correctly, the voltage should read 13.5 to 14.5 volts DC. If reads 12.6 volts or less, the alternator is not charging the battery. Take the car to Autozone or similar business for a free checkout of the alternator. It might be a bad voltage regulator instead of the alternator.

Brand new battery, drove car about two days and the lights got very dim, stereo turned off,no accellaration, and now dead.(1994 mitsubishi mirage 1.8 liter)

It sounds like the battery has gone dead and will need to be replaced due to a bad Alternator. Once you get the car started, check the voltage on the battery, there should be 13.5 to 14.5 Volts. A fully charges battery should have 12 volts with the engine not running and once the engine is running there should be 13.5 Volts with the head lights on and heater on too. If there is less then 12 volts reading on the battery with the engine running, then replace the Alternator. You can pick up a Alternator at Auto Zone and they can give you the step by step instructions to replacing it with common tools and they can also check the Alternator in your car to before you buy the new one. Good luck and hope this helps and insect the wire harness from the battery to the Alternator, look for any sighs of damaged like corrosion and repair any damages to the wire harness.

Problems with my car

I have no idea what a 'cra' is. First step is the battery condition and it's connections. Turn the lights on, are they bright? If nothing, back to the battery. Remove both connectors and put the battery on slow charge overnight. Buy a special battery brush from an auto parts house along with a small tube of anti-corrosion grease. Use the small brush inside the connector openings and larger brush on the battery posts. Rotate the brush to get a clean lead surface. Coat the posts and terminals with a layer of the grease and reassemble everything--positive terminal first, then the negative. Wash your hands to prevent strange holes from appearing in your clothes. Now try the lights--ok. Try the starter, if runs, check the battery voltage with a voltmeter. If the charging circuit is working, the voltage will read between 13.5 to 14.5 volts. Engine off, it should read 12.6 volts. If it reads 12.6 with the engine running, then the charging circuit is not working. Measure the voltage at the large terminal on the alternator. If it reads 12.6 volts as well, the alternator is in trouble. If it reads 16 volts or more, then the heavy wire between there and the starter solenoid where the very large cable from the battery is attached is open somewhere between. Take the car to the auto parts house--they usually will test the alternator for free in the hopes that they can sell you a new part if needed.
