I just had the exhaust pulled out and put in 2" pipes and a trush "cherry bomb" to eleviate any possibility of back pressure. For the amount of noise it makes now, wasn't work the miniscule increase in power, if any. Sometimes when I have lots of lttle hills and stuff, I just put it in 4L (even with the hubs disengaged) so at least I'm keeping the ngine revved, and choice of gears is much more acceptable as long as I don' ned to go over about 45 mph.

Suzuki G13 is a good engine that doesn't want for much....
To get the most out of what you have you can replace the plugs, leads and air filter and get a good tune up..
A 1-3/4" or 2" exhaust system will help it breathe but don't bother with extractors.
If you need more power, rather than playing with carbies and cams and headwork on a G13 go and get a 16V G16 out of a Baleno or Sidekick along with a Petroworks adapter kit.

no CRANK
OR NO START

IS THE 87 Still stock?, many are not, engine swaps,?
and changed carbs. ?
post what engine is there G13?
and fuel system. there.? EFI or CARB.

if still stock the stock manual wins big time.

http://www.fixkick.com/sammi-stuff/index.html

check fuses. first.
if not crank, then hot wire starter
or jumper cable start from running car.... like AAA does... dig?
next time tell if
CRANKS but dont start
or
will not crank.
we can not guess that.
nor engine options.

Car turns off at stop sing or stop lights only at night with the head lights on.

turns off? what turns off HL or engine? try to be exact in statements of car systems. engine , lighting etc.
is the 87 engine still stock , most are not.
we run ours with webers. my boss runs Harely CV carbs.
is the cars Carb still a Suzuki stock carb>?
this very old car is usually never stock, as carb parts for this old dog
are near hens teeth available. so ??????
post a photo of engine and in 1second flat WE sell that that.

here is my guess.
the ENGINE RPM is way below 800 RPM'
if not the charge system is bad.
is the charge lamp on key on then off running?
also all old suzuki's love to stall with stuck open EGR valve
ever clean that valve?
or read the FSM

http://www.fixkick.com/sammi-stuff/index.html

btw lights turn off
engines stall.
engines crank ,start, run or stall. (these terms work best )
for clarity and context.

on the stock motor the pump is driven off the cam shaft.
look at head, see valve cover, ? the FP is mechanical on carb cars.
unless modified.
here are the free books.
all is here if not modifed, if modified post a link to your engine photos. (show carb fuel lines)

87 samurai bolt torque specs for engine

The haynes book is not recommended since there are numerous mistakes and they still will not update. One of the biggest is the firing order.

The factory service manual is the only way to go.

Head bolts - 46 - 50.5 lbs (there is an order sequence for the bolts)

Intake & exhuast manifolds- 13.5 - 20 lbs

Flywheel - 41.5 - 47 lbs

Clutch cover - 13.5 - 20 lbs

Lack of power and speed.

Hello, does this vehicle have a catalytic converter? if it does it sounds like it may be obstructed. They do deteriorate/collapse when coming the end of service life and restrict the flow giving too much back pressure, ruining performance. Try removing it I know a noisy test but it will eliminate that problem?
Hope this helps,
