Lose belt on Jeep Liberty 2007 4x2 3.7L V6.

Jeep Liberty 2007 4x2 3.7L V6.

Hello. My Jeep Liberty's belt is lose. I can fit a finger between the belt and the pulleys. It's a single belt system. This problem caused overheating, loss of steering power and battery drain (since all these things are connected to the same belt system.

The belt seems fine. No tears or cracks.
How do I tighten the belts system again?

Thanks for any light you can shed in this.

Most Jeeps use the power steering pump to adjust belt tension. there is a slide bracket at the bottom and a pivot bolt on top. adjustment is made by tightening a bolt at the end of the lower bracket. I have also seen this arrangement used on an idler pulley right below the pump but I may be thinking of some other vehicle.

How to check thermostat on a 2012 jeep liberty 3.7L V6 engine?

Hello Ron Roney,

Pretty simple...

The thermostat is about $10 to $15 USD
2012 JEEP LIBERTY 3 7L V6 Thermostat Housing Water Outlet RockAuto

If you are seriously INTERESTED in ONLY TESTING a
thermostat... MY BEST RECOMMENDATION... Buy
a new one (preferably a OEM Stock one you can
use (when your are done playing))...

Boil a pot of water... remove from heat...

DROP IN the NEW thermostat...

By the time (if you are fast) ... you see it open the water
Will be just ABOVE 195 degrees Fahrenheit...
It should immediately open...

Drop in ONE or TWO ice-cubes per cup
of water should be enough to cause the
water to drop BELOW 180 Degrees Fahrenheit
the THERMOSTAT to close.

SMART IDEA...

This way you avoid greasy fingers, anti-seize
compound,
gasket and LIKELY HOUSING costs...

-Lose all belts and unbolt then slide it out.

Squeels at start for first two seconds

The squeeling could be from a worn belt or if oil drips on belt overnight. Replace the belt first to see if that fixes it.Good luck.

2002 Jeep Liberty shuts off

Could be a faulty fuel pump. As the pump warms up, when you have a faulty fuel pump they will tend to seize up. When it fails check the fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge and see what it reads.

When you open the hood look on the drivers side of the engine. There will be a pulley(Power Steering Pump) that your belt goes around, right under it on the back side is where your oil filter is located. It hangs down slightly angled towards the front of the vehicle. (This is of course the 3.7 liter V6)
