W reg (yes its 14 years old) 1995cc Astra deisel hatchback. Car running fine, then after 5 - 10 miles an amber "engine" light comes on, at gthe same time the rev counter drops to zero and doesnt work for the rest of the trip. At the same instant the power drops by about a third, most noticeable on hills. If I turn off the engine then back on the above still is happening. But after a couple of hours I get back to normal...for 5 - 10 miles then it happens again. Can't afford a newer car. Ideas please?
Engine truoble lights indicate, in a very broad sense, that some component or part of one of the operating systems is not functioning correctly. The problem could be a faulty sensor, fuel injection problems, etc. Have the vehicle scanned for trouble codes, which will further identify where the problem is. Auto Zone and Advance Auto do scans.

Check fuel feed is ok and fuel pump pressure also check cold start injector could be running on this til warm.
Hi, I had the same problem. it is the imoboliser, it reads a code in your key while starting. you need to get the code in the key reprogramed. if that wont work you will need to get a new ignition barrel. Audi dealer will reprogram your key.

Count the shifts. It sounds like you are going into overdrive and staying there. Overdrive is too long legged to pull most hills unless you are really flying.. good luck

I'm having the same problem with my 2002 Camry but i've been driving on this condition for a couple months. What long term damage can this cause? Also, Good year is trying to charge me about 500 dollars to get this problem fixed. Is that a normal price for this repair?
