I had this exact same problem and the cable was broken. There is a way to get it open by going through the wheel well. Let me know if this is still an issue for you and I can walk you through it. Thanks!

SOURCE: If the hood locking device on the drivers side

Not easy, but then again if it were you'd be replacing batteries daily...lol. You've got to make a long handeled "L" shaped hook. You can purchase a piece of 1/8 inch solid rod from a crafts store or a hardware store. You want this piece to be around two feet long. At the hook end take a pair of vicegrips and bend an "L" shape about the width of the grip teeth. At the handle end just wrap it around your hand so you'll have some control.Grab a good led flashlight also while you're there. Looking up from underneath the bumper at the top of the radiator support, you'll see an opening with the shiny part of your release cable hopefully. You've got to grab a part of that cable and pull it towards the drivers side fender.TRhis should pop your hood.I'm assuming you've already tried the friend pounding on the hood while you pull the release from inside the car routine.Good luck my friend, Dana

SOURCE: hood (bonnet) latch is not releasing on passenger

sounds like you have a broken cable. Go to the front and using a screwdriver release the catch through the grill.

SOURCE: My 2004 Jaguar xj8 will not release both latches

If your bonnet will not release, there is a rubber plug inside fender located up in
the wheel well under the latch. Remove the plug, stick a screwdriver up and pry the latch
back. The hood / bonnet will open.

Can't find hood release latch for 1970 Oldsmobile delta 88

On most vehicles the hood release is usually located on the door side of one of the foot wells. They are often hidden under the lower edge of the dash as a long plastic pull lever or a smaller round pull button. It will have a small image of a car with the hood open on it. It could be on the drivers OR the passenger side so check both. Open the car door wide and look up under the dashboard deep in the foot well.
There are some older models of vehicles from the 1960's and 1970's that have the hood release lever on the front of the vehicle where you reach through the front grill to release it. If there is no lever inside the vehicle use a flashlight to look through the grille. if there is a release it will be somewhere near the middle, top edge of the grille.

How do I open the hood?

    Without a specific model listed...
    1. Pull the hood release lever which is typically located on the driver's side floorboard, left of the brake pedal. To the left of where your left foot would rest in the car.2. You will see the hood "release" but still have another latch.3. Peak in under the middle of the hood and you will see another lever under the hood (at the front of the car). 4. Reach in and press that lever up or to it's side. You may have to push the hood down a little bit to allow it to release.
So, you will have 2 levers you are activating to open the hood. The one from the driver's seat and the one from the front of the car.

How do I open the hood of a Mitsubishi L300 ?

    1. Locate the interior hood-release lever under the dashboard on the driver's side of the interior of the car.

    2. 2

Lift up and toward you on the hood release lever. The lever is connected to a cable that releases the hood. The hood will pop up about 1/2 inch when you pull the lever.

    3. 3

Move to the front of the car and locate the exterior hood-release lever under the front of the hood. It is located near the middle of the vehicle, just beyond where the front edge of the hood meets the body. Lift up on the inner lever.

    4. 4

Lift up on the edge of the hood while holding the inner lever in place. When the hood is up, find the hood prop and raise it, setting its tip in the hood-prop mount on the hood, to hold the hood up while you work in the engine bay.

How do i open the hood.

there should be a lever that is on the bottom edge of dash that is under the steering wheel along the trim. if the handle is broken you can use pliers to grab the cable and pull it to get the hood to realse. if you found all that and i seems to work ok then when pulling the release lever have a friend hit or shake the hood to get it to pop up a little so that you can open it all the way.

Hello. There is a hood release under the dash on the far left between the steering column and the driver's door. Just pull it which will release the hood about an inch. Then go to the front of the hood and reach under the middle area to pull the lever to release the hood the rest of the way. Joe

Hood on my 1995 Toyota Tercel won't open

Someone just successfully helped me with a similar problem. IF the cable is Not broken, ie: still taunt when one pulls the hood release lever in the car, then the latch under the hood is simply stuck. Try this. Have someone bounce/press down on the front center of the hood where the latch is located to relieve spring tension. At the same time have someone pull the Hood Release lever inside the car. This may pop open the front hood. Then after the hood opens spray WD40 on the hood latch to rid the rust which likely is the cause of the problem. BTW...don't know what you mean about the Oil Light comes on. You don't need the engine turned on to open up the front hood, at least not on my model (2door sedan).
