Question about 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

1 Answer

My 1995 monte carlo is running at high idle, and when I depress the accelerator the engine dies. I seem to be getting gas and air fine. I "assume" it's getting gas because of the high idle. I pulled the catillitic converter thinking it was clogged. The night before the problem The car hit a big bump and drove through a deep puddle but under the hood seemed to stay dry.

You need to check out what is wrong with it with a diagnostics check. Water on sensors will make them do crazy things.

93 monty idles high then dies on cold startup

I would check the idle air control valve. The computer controls idle speed by regulating the amount of air entering the throttle body by using the valve. It could be sticking or failing.
I am assuming you have a 93 Monte Carlo.

is your check engine light on ? if not check the fuel filter it may be plugged. it is also possible that your fuel pressure is low, is it start it then it bogs and dies, for you may have a defective idle air mixture solenoid, this will not call up a code there for no check engine light, hope this helps , let me know good luck

Wont keep idle, car stalls out

I had this same problem on my 2005 monte carlo, took mechanic a while to figure out it was the idle air control valve. They also replace the idle air control motor.

2003 Monte Carlo SS Hesitates and Dies after running for awhile

The ck engine light should not be ignored, what sensor was shown to be bad ? Have it scanned again and replace the sensor that is bad if it still runs rough you might want to consider a tune up. Plugs, wires, fuel and air filter's and clean the throttle body with some gumout. It could also be the IAC motor Idle Air Control. Good Luck

While driving my car lost power and then died. wont re-start

Hey first thing you want to do is make sure its getting fuel .. Try shooting a little gas into the air cleaner and crank it and see if it starts .. if it does your fuel pump might be the problem .. or use a little either instead of gas either will let you know if its a fuel problem .. sounds like to me that might be what it is. holler if you need more and thanks Jerry

95 monte carlo wont run right in the morning

I had the same problem on one of my GM vehicles with the 3.1L engine (which I assume yours has)

We could never find out what it was but replaced ALL the sensors, spark plugs, and spark plug wires and it got better, then eventually fixed itself.

If you have no check engine light on then its hard to pinpoint something like this.

Check MAF sensor first, then other air/fuel components.

Irratic idle

did you bleed the air out of the cooling system? They are bad for air locks, Also is the check engine light on? Sounds like maybe a sensor left unplugged
