2000 EF Sonata High revving at a standstill - 5spd manual

Occasionally when at a standstill at traffic lights etc the idle will increase to 3 or 4k without having foot on the accelerator and wont go down until I either turn off the engine (and wait upto 5mins for it to restart) or take off at this high rev and it'll eventually go away. It doesnt make a difference if the engine is cold/hot or what the weather is like etc

I've taken it to the mechanic and they said its probably the idle speed control motor so they took it off, inspected it found it to be ok but it still occurs. They've had the car twice and so far they haven't experienced what I've experienced and therefore unable to fully diagnose the problem.

I love my Sonata but it has got to the stage where I dont trust driving her beacuse I have no way of knowing when this will occur again

Any help would be appreciated

Your problem is with your throttle position sensor or TPS, you need to replace it because the spring is malfunctioning.

When u start it it idles high and when u are stopped at a light or in traffic u have to hold brake 2x as hard as normal cuz the high idle makes it want to keep on going. it does not ever stop idiling...

You do not state year or model. Many Chevrolets have electric idle control, and it could be out of adjustment. Also, a loose vacuum line could increase the idle by a significant amount. At 2000 rpm, when stopped, the engine really wants to drag the car forward, hence the extra effort to keep it stopped. Furthermore, dragging the vehicle forward continuosly will eventually damage the automatic transmission torque converter.

Hyundai sonata 01 jerking slow take off high idling

P0715 = Input Shaft Speed Sensor Malfunction
P0765 = P0765 Overdrive solenoid valve problem
The Input shaft speed sensor is located on top of the trans (center) under the shifter cable (the shifter cable is connected to the transaxel range switch). The Overdrive Solenoid valve is located INSIDE the trans (oil pan must be removed to access it).Go to and register (vehicle by VIN). Afterward, you'll have access to technical information (manuals, wiring diagrams, service bulletins, etc) about your vehicle.

Engine revving problem

Sounds like your idle speed is way too high, should be somewhere around 800-1200 rpms. I would check for vacuum leaks.
