My ford festiva has been runnin great for the past 3 yrs and alternator light flashed and alternator went out i parked my car puller battery cable off and went in house for couple hours went back out to...

It is your main fusible link. It is located in the center of a block of 3 fusible links located in the engine bay on the front of the drivers side strut tower. Usually it is corrosion. You can usually unplug the lInk, clean it off and replace it. A wise upgrade is a cartridge type fuse. Join us for free at fordfestiva.com for ALL festiva answers. They last forever. 1991 ford festiva replaced alternator new

it is part of the alternator actually on a lucas unit, a small black box bolted to the rear of the alternator.

You may have a faulty ignition switch or a corroded engine earth cable causing the alternator not to reach charging voltage.

The alternator is from a car and id like to wire it up to a marine engine how do i wire it to charge a battry

You will need to Wire up the + to the output terminal of the alternator - and the - to the chassis of the alternator.
Boats, typically, do not have grounding straps.

Locating the starter on 90 Ford Festiva

Hi? Let's give it a bash!
Look where your gearbox meets with the enjin, locate the bolts that holds enjin and g/box together. The starter motor is located there and the connecting bolts are inline with the above mentioned bolts, the starter motor bolts on to the g/box and is located on the top half of the gearbox, should easily be visible ( under the hood, not underneath the vehicle.
Alternatively follow the thick red wire from the battery possitive to the rear of the starter motor also note that there is a thinner red wire from battery possitive to the alternator.
I hope this advice is helpfull!
Regards.

When i turn my lights on my battery drains.

Even though your alternator charges in the daytime, when there is a load on it, the alternator can't bear the load, your alternator maybe weak but not completely bad. You may have to have your connections checked

CHARGING SYSTEM

well for starters your altenator is bad because what it is dolinging is over charging the battery hence why it boiled off the water/acid in the battery. the regulater is intergrated into the altenator. there is not a short because numberone your car would not start and two your battery would explode. i never test a battery or altenator at a store like napa or Oreilly's because they are not mechanics ......they are parts guys. your altenator should charge the battery at no more than 14 volts and the average is 13.5 volts. you need to replace the altenator the reason why you are losing a charge is be cause as the car is running the battery is being discharged because the regulator is defective in the altenator. please rate this thanks
