The cable came off for my power window

I have a 99 vw beetle and the cable came off of the pulley. Is there some way to put it back on? what do I look for as far as damage is concerned it look like it may have gotten pinched. Should I replace it ? I have only gotten the top (facia) panel removed. do I remove the inner as well??

If the window regulator cable fell off the the assmbly go to your vw dealer. You can purchase a repair kit that comes with a new cable and updated clips. If you put the old cable back on it will just come off again. Be sure to inspect the power window motor gears as most of the time the cable will get wrapped around it. also check the pulleys to make sure that they are not cracked/broken or loose. If they are you will need to replace the entire regulator. Don't forget if you replace the regulator you have to drill out the rivits and replace them. Your VW dealer will have the replacements.

Definetly have to remove the inner. i would have to imagine that if it came off then you have to replace it, it is probably frayed or twisted. if it is frayed or twisted, there is no way to fix it. you have to replace it.

Psycho 99 VW Beetle - I think it may be possessed, because I roll the windows up, lock the doors and when I walk a few feet away - the car un-locks and the windows roll down automatically..HELP!!

apparently the VW beetle is an odd machine, there is some kind of module connected to the locks and windows, for instance if you have the door lock, and in the closed position then use the key to unlock and hold it in unlock position the window will roll down showing you that the lock control module is working. if I were you I would seriously consider taking it to a VW dealership and showing them the problem. they might be able to tell you whats wrong or suggest a good exorcist lol good luck

Cannot find dipstick to check transmission fluid on 99 vw beetle. do '99 Passats need transmission fluid added to the engine? If so, how do I do this?

There is no "dipstick for the VW Beetle transmission". This is a dealer check/repair item. The unit is typically sealed, but can have a leak if the seal on top of the transmission fails. About a $700 repair. This happened on my 1998 VW New Beetle.

Speedometer on 99 vw beetle not working

He can if it's nothing more than a broken cable, otherwise it gets real difficult. Even getting to the ends of the cable behind the dash could be a frustrating experience.

99 Beetle Serpentine belt diagram

The serpentine belt on my 2001 Beetle loops around the outside of the large pulley closest to the firewall, at the bottom, then goes around the outside of the forward lower pulley, then crosses to the inside of the one right above the forward lower pulley, then loops over the outside of the alternator pulley at the top front side, then goes inside under the tensioner pulley, and back down to the outside of the big rear pulley.

I hope that description makes sense. A picture would work a lot better, but I don't have an easy way to post it. Also, I know you asked about the '99 Beetle, but I assume its routing is the same as the 2001 (which is the one I have).

98 VW Window Regulator

Do you have the metal assebly completely in front of you? And you've made sure all the cables are passed the same. If yes there should be an arrow type area on each pulley? Also each pulley should have a smaller and a larger area?
