SOURCE: Dome light and reading lamps stay on and will not cut off.

your door close switch is non-functional. its located in the door jamb. its a black button the size of a shirt button. usually held in by one or two screws.

there is one for each door.

Does car have a chip in the key? If so take an olm meter and measure the chip in the key. Should be around .5 of an olm now check the small orange wires at the ignition switch in the column should read the same otherwise security system in ecm won’t send power to trigger wire on starter. If you find this to be a problem you can bypass it by getting a reostat and set it to match the olm reading on your chip. Reostat is similar to light dimmer switch has a twist knob tie each side of orange wire to reostat and walls security bypassed for good. Can also use a resistor I’ve heard never tried myself always went with the reostat

1995 Jeep Wrangler lights wont go out even after vehicle is turned off what could be the problem*

What lights ? Exterior - interior or all lights ? Could be the light switch , dimmer switch , daytime running lamps module . To find out for sure would need to test the electrical circuits , Can you do that ? There are videos on you tube on basic electrical trouble shooting , how to read a wiring diagram , how to use a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter .

Where can i find a dome wiring diagram for a 1998 chevy cavalier ?

Do your dash lights work? Check the dash light switch to see if it rotates to control the dome light, it may be turned off completely or the dome light ground wire may be loose. If not the wiring will run from the back of the fuse block through the body post to the dome light Good Luck

Tail Lights will not always illuminate; seems to have a short in dimmer switch

This is not necessarily your dimmer switch. Most manufacturers tie the dash lights to the tail lights so that it warns you in a visible way if your tail-lights are not working. It sounds more like you have a power supply problem unless working the dimmer switch actually causes or resolves the problem. Chances are you either have a shorting power wire, or a mostly broken wire that is only making an intermittent connection. If it was constant I'd suggest checking fuses but with an intermittent issue, The only way to really check this is to start tracing wires and testing power along them when it's not working. Wiring diagrams help a lot.

95 Toyota Celica ST Dimmer Switch

The instrument dimmer function is most likely in the light switch. Pull the switch to turn the parking lights on. Then rotate the knob to bring the instrument lights on, continue rotation of the knob to bring the dome light on. Be sure to turn dome light off so as not to kill your battery. the dome light will not turn itself off.

Not sure about your car but on my KIA the dome and rear gate light have switches on the light assemblies themselves for on/off all time/on with door. Check to see if you have same. Also, there may be another "dash" switch, typically on the dash dimmer switch which may be turned all the way from dim to off. Check your dash dimmer switch. Relays are typically in a fuse box under the hood.

2005 chevy suburban- my back-up lights and interior dome lights do not work. All fuses appear intact? Suggestions?

you bcm (body control module is bad) to have the dealer replace it will run you about $400. a quick fix for the reverse light is to splice 2 wires into the wire for the center plug in your trailer wiring. now run a wire up to each reverse light, cut the green wire to each reverse light and **** conect them up. this is a seperate revers feed than the one from the bcm. the dome lights remove the light cover on the second set of interior lights (the one between the drivers seats). the two side bulbs are map lights the center bulb is for the dome lights. run a jumper wire from the right or leftside socket to the center socket. you dome lights will now turn on with just the use of that switch i replaced the back bulbs with led's soo there is no extra amp's being drawn. you could bypass the bcm but i could not find any wiring diagrams for it and i dont know if it can take the added amp's

How do u replace dimmer switch on 2000 chevy truck?

The dash panel snaps off without any screws which is just a reminder why I like GM. Use your fingers and start at the edge and work your way around top with a prying action. You will have access to the dimmer head light and dome override module. Use a small flathead screwdriver to push at the side to release the catch to pull out the module. Unplug the old and plug in the new. Reassemble the dash and your good to go.
