The hinges are held together with two top, and two bottom, 10
millimeter bolts. (At the pivot point) However, one half of the hinge
is welded to the pillar, the other half to the door. That being
said...The bolts can be removed to take the door off. BUT, in order to
go any further: the hinges will have to be cut and welded. So I guess
the answer your looking for is. Take the door off, unplug the wires,
cut and weld the half necessary to repair the deficiency
Sounds like a door pin to me. If this is the case easiest way to do this is by a couple new ones.Have a buddy come over and help you. First open up the door and have your buddy hold it.
Next using a hammer and a small punch (or something similar) tap any remaining pins out (top one has to be pushed from the top down, bottom from the bottom up)
Then pull the door out enough that the hinges are apart and hammer out all the old bushings.
Then re-install in reverse order. I usually just use a pair of pliers and press in new bushings, get the door in place and tap in the pins (this time upper pin goes in from the bottom, bottom pin goes in from the top.
This is a pretty common thing since the top pin goes in from the bottom, when the bushings start to wear they no longer fit snug on the pin and the pin slides out.

Guess they should have re-enforced those...too many are coming off. Not an easy fix but you need to remove the door and have the inside of the pillar re-enforced and welded in place with a heavier gauge insert. I've only seen one person do this in a way that impressed me. He cut a slot in the pillar and slid the insert inside, supported it with a screw placed into a pre -drilled hole (used as a handle), then welded it into the opening. the weld was then ground flat and the hinge was tack welded on top, while still on the door, then door was removed again and weld was completed. A lighter gauge piece was welded over the opening (slot) and then the pillar was re-painted. (looks like factory, wasn't cheap but was very strong.)
If all fuses etc check out, look at wiring harness inside loom that is located near door hinge area of drivers door for bared or broken wires. Not uncommon for wires to get ruined especially at drivers door, as it is opened & closed the most.
from the late 80's to the 90's jeep cherokees have a known problem with there front door hinges. the first time i seen this on a jeep i thought it was a fluke but now owning a 93 cherokee i am goin through the same problem... most of the time its not the door pins (i am not saying this is not what is wrong with yours, but for the most part it is not the pins). on the inside of the sheet metal, where the door hinges are welded onto, tend to rust/wear out and cause up and down play in the top door hinge. the only way to fix it is to take the door off and reweld a new brace or support underneath the sheet metal, and the weld the door back into place... my jeep is goin threw this process right now... but if you dont fix the door soon it will acually rip the top door hinge out of place, allowing the door to almost touch the ground when opened.
You will have to Mcgyver it....You can cut the pin out but usually anything u put in there wil not last long. Also usually the pin goes and the hinge holes get oblonged making it impossibble too repair. I used to cut the hinge out Cause its welded to the frame on most and weld on a new one....
