The ignition key will not come out. With the car turned off and the shifter in park the key is stuck. We tried rocking the steering wheel and re-establishing the car in park. Either the tumblers have locked up or the car does not know it is in park. Also, the shifter seems a litle looser than normal.
Check the linkage on the transmission from the shifter. or not try wiggling the key up and down. if the cable is broken try to move the linkage on the trans all the way foward ( towards the front tires) with the tires blocked because it may roll. try it then.

Key Stuck in Ignition, Key Will Not Return to Off Position, Shifter Button Won't Release in Park Position (Adjust Shifter Detent Finger)
2002-2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo
Customers may comment on any of the following conditions:
- The key is stuck in the ignition cylinder.
- They cannot return the key to the off position to remove the key.
- The shifter button won't release in the park position.
This condition may be caused by the detent finger shifting over time. This may result in mis-alignment and binding of the shift rod on the shift position guide.
WHERE YOUR SHIFTER IS YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE IT APART ..MAYBE THE RUBBER BOOT IS IT THE WAY,OR THE SHIFT LOCK SELINOID WHENT BAD
Check under your dash at the levers for the Brake pedal. There are some Interlock switches that get hit by feet fairly regularly. The switch that makes the gearshift unlock is on the Brake pedal. You have to have your foot on the brake to shift out of Park.
When the shifter is stuck you will not be able to remove your Key from the Ignition. You need to press on the Brake and then try to get the trigger on the shifter to move into Park. Once in Park everything will be okay.
you might need to replace ignition key cylinder assy and replace current key, now, sometimes if this is a automatic transmission it might have problem with shifter interlock cable try moving shifter from park to first and back to park and try removing key again, but if key gets stuck and car won't start, does the key turns? does the engine cranks? are you using the correct key?
Transmission is in a bind, are you parked on an incline or something? If so, try rocking the car with the ignition turned on to release the shifter if and when it comes loose, if not, repair shop sounds like.
sounds like your steering lock is messed up. there is a bar that slides up and down on top of the inside of the column just in front of the steering wheel. it may be stuck.. try rocking the wheel back and forth while doing the same with the key
while in park, press shifter firmly even farther above park. Hold shifter and turn key. The linkage may need adjusting. If this does not help the situation, then the pins inside the ignition are not getting pressed down because key is getting worn. You can try to tap around the ignition lightly with hammer to shake the pins loose.
