New fuel filter was installed 3 weeks ago. This car sat for over a year before i bought it and was hooked up to a dead battery. I got rid of the miss it had with new coil packs. It has new wires, plugs, air filter, new fuel. one additional thing it does is that it sometimes after you start it it races the idle up to 2500 rpm and won't go back down until you turn the car off and restart it.

Check to see if the throttle linkage is sticking. If not, it might be the idle control system/ sensor, and you better check the timing. Just get a timing light and shoot it at the mark on the crank. If the mark is jumping around, the timing belt has jumped a cog. It should stay basically in one position. Check for broken , loose or cracked vacuum lines, loose intake bolts, and then change that crappy vote you gave me. :(

Hi have a 75 eldorado. The car ran and drove fine until put an edlebrock carburetor. The car still runs good and drives but it will not shift into second. I have suction on the trans vacuum line.

Hi Jonathan, When you installed the Edelbrock carb did you readjust the kick down cable for transmission? And does it shift hard in other up shifts?

I’m happy to assist further over the phone at

check kick down band adjustment,to tight,or lose,DON'T, over losen, a part inside the transmission will drop out inside transmission causing disasembly to be needed, check linkage first, could also be sticking servo which works the kick down band

Transmission won't shift out of first

You likely have a bad transmission solenoid, which chrysler is famous for. the symptom is just as you describe, car/van/truck shifts down to and stays in first - to get you home in limp mode. Once it cools off a while it may run fine for an hour/day/week and the the problem returns.

Not a real expensive fix.

Sounds like your catalytic converters may be plugged up. You can do a quick check by loosening the exhaust pipes from the manifolds and see how it performs.

My Silverado runs fine and when I get up to 45 mph, it shifts up and back down and won't make up it's mind. Seems fine over 65 mph.

Your kick-down (Shift Modulator) may either be loose, broken or defective. If yours is a vacuum based model it may simply be a vacuum hose. If it's electronic you may try checking the plug located near the shifting arms. Sometimes mechanics forget to tighten this up after an engine repair so it may need tightening and adjustment.
Vacuum modules are usually non-adjustable.

I have a 92 940turbo my car shifts fine until im on the freeway it wont go into last gear and runs about 4000rpms @ 60 mph..when i press my kick down button, dash light goes on but cant feel anything...

this is an electric shift solenoid inside the pan of the transmission. the best thing to do is let an expert inspect and diagnose the transmission (just in case there are other faults not evident at this time). if he condemns nothing more then this shift solenoid, GREAT! replace it and keep driving. cheers

Transmission problem stuck in sport shift mode

I also have a 2009 Outlander Sportronic transmission with a V6 engine.
Bought it this summer ... transmission appeared fine but seemed to automatically slow down the vehicle using the engines compression whenever I let go of the gas pedal.
Now that the cold weather is upon us here in Canada, whenever I accelarate normally (not like a teenager) the transmission takes quite a bit of time to shift into second... If I rev up the engine (quick take off) it seems to help but the shifting of gears is not as smooth as I would expect it (mildly slips and kicks into second)...

The worst is when come to a complete stop ... then the transmission kicks coming down from the higher gears???

I read somewhere that this is because this transmission is a CVT type and is learning my driving habits in order to adjust itself so the vehicle becomes more fuel efficient... Not sure but if the trany is computer controlled then it must be poorly writen program...
I'm taking the car in to the dealer and will write back on the diagnostic they give me ...

Transmission shifts to second gear and stays there

Could Be that your TCM is losing power. I would check to see if the TCM is firmly attached to the passenger side fender wall. If not it could be losing the ground.
