Question about 1999 Dodge Stratus

1 Answer

99' stratus keeps shutting off while driving, then will restart after couple minutes. I replaced the fuel pump but its still doing it. Usually in the first 15 minutes of running the car.

I tried that already, but its still doing the same thing. Sometimes it will run for days with out shutting off, then others days it will die 4 to 5 times in a two hour ride.

You need to replace your thermostat. Your car is most likely overheating.

Ok, noting the additional information I would say your problem points to the EGR valve or the MAP sensor. I would start with the EGR valve.

if it shuts off while driving down the road. and restarts after 10 minutes, its usually a bad crank sensor that does this. it messes up timing and shuts off fuel supply.

1998 dodge stratus stalls while driving if gas tank is half empty

You need to check fuel pressure carefully. This happens when tank is so full of dirt that the pump screen gets clogged. After sitting down several minutes, some of the dirt settles and the car can be restarted, but happens again. Refrain from starting to change every sensor without knowing what is the real cause, because you could be thowing money and not fixing it. Aldo check pressure regulator is functioning correctly. BE DRIVING ALONG AND OUT OF NOWHERE SHE SHUTS DOWN AND WONT START WITHOUT STARTING FLUID AND SHUTS RIGHT BACK DOWN GIVE IT A HOUR OR TWO FIRES UP LIKE NOTHING EVER HAPPENED 99 S-10 BLAIZER 4.3

Take a fuel pressure gauge for a ride --tied to wipers

See if your loosing fuel pressure when it quites ,or see if
that data is avail on scan tool

Some brands of pumps don't last long,so I heard & see from
other experts on here

I guess a relay for fuel pump could have a bad primary coil in it

Try switching them around-- to something else you don't need
all the time

My 200 dodge stratus was running fine i shut it of and when i tryed to restart it it acts like it is out of gas

Dodge fuel pumps are notorious for going out without any warning. I would suggest that you check for fuel pressure at the fuel rail and if no fuel..check the fuel relay and then the fuel pump replacement. I would process of eliminate in that order.
