I have a 2000 Suzuki Esteem 1.8L 4Cyl Manual Transmission that needs a new front-left CV axle, how do I know what size I need to order?

I've went to a few different websites and the parts vary in sizes, like 26" long to 30" long.

Get the VIN/chassis number, part store will know how to match it up.

SOURCE: Replacing front right axle on

Before taking the wheel off loosen and remove the center nut holding the drive shaft into the hub. Take off the wheel, unbolt the caliper, hang the caliper from a piece of wire, and take out the bolts holding the bearing hub to strut assembly. Now pull out the top of the bearing holder and push it down hard while bending the outer joint and pulling the axle up and out of the bearing holder. If this a rare car where you can not get enough clearance to remove the end of the axle, then you may also have to take the nut off of the tie rod end and pop it out of the steering arm. You can usually get the axle out with out unbolting the lower ball joint or popping the tie rod out of the steering arm.

On a 2000 suzuki esteem passenger side wheel bearing, does the cv jjoint have to be removed to replace the wheel bearing?

NO... the joint/axle needs to be disconnected from the hub as described above.. as well as the strut and steering linkage ..but then it only needs moved away and off of the axle to change the hub bearing

I would say that you should have replaced the seal as well, sometimes they leak if they have been disturbed

Can I just replace just one cv joint

Yes you can,I'm not sure if your refering to the whole axle or one cv joint on the axle.Replacing a cv joint is best left to a qualified mechanic, most cv joints require special tools and procedures to replace correctly.

New cv axle

you dont have to take off the hub. just take off the strut where is connects to the steering knuckle and twist it out of the way and take the axle out that was. you may also have to take the tire rod off the knuckle also. and if you wanted to make it really easy then you could that the whole knuckle off the ball joint and just pull the cv axle straight out.
