Question about 1992 Honda Accord

Oil pools in Spark plug wire hole on Cyl 1 & 4 causing misfire.

What prevents the oil from the top of the head/camshaft from getting into the spark plug well? I other words is this an easy fix or will I require a shop mechanic to repair? I've looked at diagrams on line but cannot determine what to replace, the spark plug wire or something else?

There is an oil seal for each hole for the plugs. This requires a little work. You need to take out the cover of the head. Normally you should see the seals underneath the cover just surrounding the holes.

Yeah this happened to me and I got it fixed about 2 weeks ago. You do need to check the seals. I had to buy a kit and take out the oil so I could change the plugs.

Pcv valve I changed the head gasket in my 2002 Nissan Altima 2.5s and did a oil change and I had the oil filler cap off when I started it and it oil came out the filler


Oil supply to the overhead camshaft and valve gear is fairly vigorous and so some spray from there is to be expected without the filler cap.

Unlikely a problem with the pcv valve - they rarely give trouble unless seriously gummed up with carbon-type deposits and then a thorough clean mostly restores them.

What are the probable causes of DTCs P0300, P0301, an P1189?


P1189 Buick - Engine Oil Pressure Switch Fault PO301
Possible causes
- Faulty spark plug 1
- Clogged or faulty fuel injector 1
- Faulty ignition coil 1
- Fuel injector 1 harness is open or shorted
- Fuel injector 1 circuit poor electrical connection
- Ignition coil 1 harness is open or shorted
- Ignition coil 1 circuit poor electrical connection
- Insufficient cylinder 1 compression
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- Intake air leak
PO300 is just telling you that you had a misfire.

It will take a while to get rid of all the oil that leaked into the spark plug hole. Take it apart again and recheck.

As long as ANY light is on you have a problem

Are the upsteam or front O2 Sensors over 100,000 miles

Your exhaust converter is 12 to 14 years old,that's when they
just look good & do nothing inside

Check this SPARK PLUG REPLACEMENT - REMOVAL PROCEDURE

1. Remove the ignition coils (lines at end this document), then return here once you have gotten the Coil
Packs off and precede with step 2 from here.
2. Clean the spark plug recesses with low pressure air. CAUTION: Wear safety glasses
when using compressed air, as flying dirt particles may cause eye injury. NOTE:
Clean the spark plug recess area before removing the spark plug. Failure to do so could
result in engine damage because of dirt or foreign material entering the cylinder head, or
by the contamination of the cylinder head threads. The contaminated threads may prevent
the proper seating of the new plug. Use a thread chaser to clean the threads of any
contamination.
3. Remove the spark plugs from the cylinder head. NOTE: Allow the engine to cool before
removing the spark plugs. Attempting to remove the spark plugs from a hot engine may
cause the plug threads to seize, causing damage to cylinder head threads.
4. Inspect the spark plugs.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

1. Measure the spark plug gap on the spark plugs to be installed. Compare the measurement
to the gap specifications. NOTE:
• Use only the spark plugs specified for use in the vehicle. Do not install spark
plugs that are either hotter or colder than those specified for the vehicle. Installing
spark plugs of another type can severely damage the engine.
• Check the gap of all new and reconditioned spark plugs before installation. The
pre-set gaps may have changed during handling. Use a round feeler gage to ensure
an accurate check. Installing the spark plugs with the wrong gap can cause poor
engine performance and may even damage the engine.
2. Install the spark plugs to the cylinder head. NOTE:
• Be sure that the spark plug threads smoothly into the cylinder head and the spark
plug is fully seated. Use a thread chaser, if necessary, to clean threads in the
cylinder head. Cross-threading or failing to fully seat the spark plug can cause
overheating of the plug, exhaust blow-by, or thread damage.
• Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Notice in Service Precautions.
Tighten the spark plugs to 18 N.m (13 lb ft).
3. Install the ignition coils.

IGNITION COIL(S) REPLACEMENT
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Remove the air cleaner resonator and outlet duct.
2. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) from the oil pressure sensor (2).
3. Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainers (1) from the power steering pump (2).
4. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors (1, 4) from the following:
• The exhaust camshaft position (CMP) sensor (5)
• The camshaft position (CMP) actuator solenoid valve (6)
5. Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainer (2) from the camshaft cover (3).
6. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors from the following:
• The engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor (1)
• The fuel injector harness (2)
• The ignition coils (4)
• The heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) (5)
7. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the intake camshaft position (CMP) sensor.
8. Carefully disengage the engine wiring harness conduit from the camshaft cover, and position aside.
9. Remove the ignition coil bolts.
10. Remove the ignition coils from the camshaft cover.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the ignition coils into the camshaft cover. IMPORTANT: Ensure the ignition coil seals are properly seated to the camshaft cover.
2. Install the ignition coil bolts. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions. Tighten the ignition coil bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
3. Attach the engine wiring harness conduit to the camshaft cover.
4. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the intake CMP sensor.
5. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors to the following:
• The ECT sensor (1)
• The fuel injector harness (2)
• The ignition coils (4)
• The HO2S (5)
6. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors (1, 4) to the following:
• The exhaust CMP sensor (5)
• The CMP actuator solenoid valve (6)
7. Connect the engine wiring harness retainer (2) to the camshaft cover (3).
8. Connect the engine wiring harness retainers (1) to the power steering pump (2).
9. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) to the oil pressure sensor (2).
10. Install the air cleaner resonator and outlet duct.

Have oil leaking into one spark plug hole will valve cover gasket and spark plug seals fix this? this is a 2000 four cyl honda.


Yes. The valve covers have seals that seal around the spark plug tubes where the plug wires go down through the valve cover. A valve cover set should come with the spark plug tube seals. This is a common problem with Honda. I also recommend replacing the plug wires because the rubber boot can get saturated with oil and cause a misfire. Sometimes it may look like the boot is clean when you wipe it off, but the oil is still in the pores and can cause the boot to allow the spark to arc over to the spark plug tube. Most of the time the ceramic on the plugs gets messed up also. This can also cause a misfire. If the plugs have any brown or black discoloration that does not easily wipe off with a rag, then I also recommend replacing the plugs. The discoloration is caused by carbon. Carbon is highly electrically conductive. This will allow the spark to travel down the side of the ceramic to the metal base of the spark plug.

possible bad rings, i would put some motor tune-up in oil will clean carbon off rings, its made by company called seaform and is called motor tune-up, put hole can in oil and drive for about 30 days ,its good stuff can also use in fuel to clean injectors, could also have worn out valve stem seals causing oil to leak pass valves into cyl

Sounds like misfire. Change spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor , fuel and air filters. Check for oil in spark plug holes. if oil found change valve cover gasket spark plug orings. they can leak oil into spark plug holes and cause misfire.

I have exactly the same problem and codes you listed on my 2000 Camry 4 cyl. I replaced the plugs which had no effect. My friend mechanic said the problem is deffinitely the wires and I could also need to replace the coil pack.
