Firebird will not start

1992 pontiac firebird will not start and idle until the tps and the map sensors are disconected.

If you have to unplug those to make it work then one of the two or both are bad ,get it to aoto zone or parts store for a check,they do a computer check and will tell you which is bad mzone dont charge for it either,hope to help you, robert.b

a defective tps sensor could cause this kind of defect..tps is the throttle position sensor..located at the intake manifold connected in the accelerator cable

this could be a few things! A few possibilities being incorrect air/fuel ratio, tune-up, manifold absolute pressure(map) sensor, throttle position sensor(TPS).

High idle


Clean the throttle body inside to make sure the throttle plate closes properly. also clean the mass air flow sensor cross wires inside it's bore. If there are no vacuum leaks, this may help

Wont stay running


Could be bad TPS sensor, bad MAP sensor, bad Oxygen sensor, bad injector, or any number of things. Need to have a computer to diagnose most of the stuff now adays.

I would look at the codes,, jumper the two upper connector holes in the diagnostic link with a paperclip,, turn the key on, and read the blinks of the check engine light,, first will come 3 12 codes then any error codes. If you get a repair manual for that vehicle it will tell you how to perform these tests.
