Question about 1997 Dodge Neon

1 Answer

I have a 99' Neon starting problem..

All I get is a single click..(Battery is brand new btw), So I removed the starter, brought it to an auto parts store. It tested ok. I reinstalled it, and made sure the terminals and all cable ends were spotless, Tried to start it, just a single click and no more..Engine can be pop started and does run fine that way..Any body have any solutions?..I'm thinking solenoid somehow..

Well being you can pop start it,the engine isn't siezed. I would cut the insulation on both battery cables & see how nicely green they are. Then I would toss them for scrap, must recycle! & buy a new set of cables. You might have so much resistence in the cables, especially the ground to start the car.

I resently put a brand new battery in the car an it will not turn over. It does make a clicking sound when i turn the key

Now,it's time to check the starter out,a clicking noise means starter is bad,you have to remove and take to auto part store and they will test for free, your battery was probably good. Here's a link on a repair guide on replacing your starter Gabriel. Clicks when i try to start it, not the starter battery terminals or relay?

Then it is the cable from the battery to the starter. Corrosion will make it's way down inside the cable. Corrosion causes resistance. Too much resistance causes not enough voltage/amps to a particular part.

I have a 99 plymouth neon that has power everywhere but when u turn key starter wont turn over there is no click sound or anything

It sound like you might need a new battery. What you need to do is remove the battery and take it your local auto parts store and have them quick charge your battery then apply a load test on the battery.

If your battery is OK. Then there are a couple things that could go wrong. No voltage from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid. Next is the starter solenoid has gone south faster than Willy Coyota can catch the Road Runner. If both are bad then each needs to be replaced or fixed. Also one more thing the alternator gone south. Get you can running and check the voltage across the battery while the car is running it should be about 13.8 to 14.1 volts. GB...stewbison

2001 dodge neon will not start! will turn on and make a noise like its gonna start but doesn't. Replaced fuel pump, sensors, and something else but the damn car wont start! what is the problem?? Please...

Hi:
My name is Tom and I know I can help you. I will go out on a limb and say: When you try to start the car you hear a clicking sound. That is your starter solenoid engaging. The car will not start because the starter is bad.

Therefore, detached the cables from the battery so no current can get to the solenoid and starter. Remove the starter.(If you have problems with this I can talk you through it). Take the starter and solenoid to you auto parts store and ask them to test your starter and solenoid.

Put in the new parts and reconnect the battery to the car. I believe that you will have not more problems.

I brought a new battery for my dodge neon thinking the battery was dead but i put the keys in the lightt go on but the engine wont make a sound

Sounds like solenoid on starter has packed it in Try crossing solenoid terminal (small wire on solenoid) to power feed on starter (End of battery cable) If nothing happens Remove starter & renew solenoid

Check battery connections that they are clean and tight. You can then jump it off and load test for free at Autozone

2004 Dodge Neon - Engine died, coasted to stop, and won't restart. Not even a click. Brand new battery, clean terminals, fuses good, starter relay good. Radio and lights work. Power windows work fine.

Does the starter turn the engine over,or not?Or is the engine not running when you turn the ENGINE OVER AND OVER? If there is no starter turning on the car, then check for a start,or main fuse to see if one is blown. Also look for a fusible link burned into.It will look like a wire, but if it is burned into, you can pull the link apart like taffy. It will either be on the starter with the battery cable,or on a positive cable junction near the battery. If I can help, let me know.

Won't start, click

Need to remove the starter and take it to an auto parts store and have it checked, Most likely you should have the starter relay checked first
