Question about 2003 Kia Rio

Im also have kinda the same problem

When i take off its slower then a snail. but once it gets moving its not so bad. i wonder if the cmp= camshaft position sensor has anything to do with that? or a bad connection somewheres. im going to do some more testing in a little bit and see.

    ok. mine keeps throwing the code for the camshaft position sensor. well if the MIL is on then it is slow. but if i leave my code scanner plugged up and clear the code before i start it. and leave it hooked up. it runs better. so im going to change the CMP tomorrow and see if that helps. i know the sensor isnt bad because then it wouldnt run. but it is giving a weak signal.

    ok well i figured it out.. i think....... i can clear all the codes and then start it and i left the scanner hooked up a coupel of time.. when driving it once everything has reached operatng temp is when it throws a code for the VSS and the CMP the VSS limits the RPM's and the CMP limits the take off..... but the only thing i can thing of is maybe something is wrng with either the oxygen sensor or the cat. to where when it warms up and the oxygen sensor comes into loop it thinks its running rich or lean because maybe the cat is stppped up or something?? i have had the car about a year and a half. it has 168000 miles. i have been doing everything regular. i wonder if its the cat since it has never been changed? where im at i dont need an emissions test so i wonder if i can cut it off and put a peice of straight pipe... i changed the CMP and VSS. they are brand new and still throwing codes when it warms up so. anyone have any ideas?

code p 0010 refers to camshaft position (CMP) actuator, intake /left/front, bank 1---circuit malfunction====causes --wiring---CMP actuator---ECM
code p 0011 refers to camshaft position (CMP) sensor , intake /left/front, bank 1--timing over-advanced/system performance===causes ---valve timing---engine mechanical fault--cmp actuator-wiring
if the engine is running as expected , it would be logical to eliminate mechanical and valve timing fault
buy replacing what you have , it is possible that there is a wiring connection problem that you temporarily fixed by moving the harness around
At this point it indicates problem CMP sensors, so take it to an accredited service specialist that has experience on your make of vehicle and get a diagnosis done and a quote

2007 Cadillac 3.6L srx, check engi, code p00017 crank sensor - replaced, still running rough and giving me a misfire on 1,3&5. Changed plugs, still 1,3&5 misfire - 155000 miles, could it need new coil

155,000 miles This is not a DTC for the crank sensor . This is for variable valve timing .
DTC P0017: Crankshaft Position (CKP) - Exhaust Camshaft Position (CMP) Correlation Bank 1
The camshaft position (CMP) actuator system enables the engine control module (ECM) to change the timing of the camshafts while the engine is operating. The CMP actuator solenoid signal from the ECM is pulse width modulated (PWM). The ECM controls the CMP actuator solenoid duty cycle by controlling the amount of solenoid ON time. The CMP actuator solenoid controls the advance or the retard of each camshaft. The CMP actuator solenoid controls the oil flow that applies the pressure to advance or retard the camshafts.
Ignition voltage is supplied directly to the CMP actuator solenoid. The ECM controls the solenoid by grounding the control circuit with a solid state device called a driver. The ECM compares the camshaft position or the camshaft angle, to the position of the crankshaft.

Your a little out of your league on this ! Your best bet ,take it to a qualified repair shop !

• Inspect the engine for any recent engine mechanical repairs. An incorrectly installed camshaft, camshaft actuator, camshaft sensor, crankshaft sensor, or timing chain can cause this DTC to set.
• An actuator that is in the full advance or retard position can cause this DTC to set.
• The presence of DTCs P0008 and P0009 along with P0016, P0017, P0018, and P0019 indicates a possible condition with the primary timing chain and the alignment between both intermediate sprockets and the crankshaft. Or, the crankshaft reluctor wheel has moved and is no longer referenced to top dead center (TDC).
• Observing the desired and actual camshaft angle parameters, with a scan tool before a DTC sets, may help to isolate whether a condition is specific to one camshaft, one bank, or caused by a condition with the primary crankshaft timing.

2007chevy,hhr started missing extremely bad , then overheated when I crank the engine no compression friend of my coded 016 and 017 ? jumped time or better yet probably broken chain ! Any ideas ?

Pull the valve cover off then turn engine by hand , socket on crank pulley an 1/2 breaker bar . Or you will be able to pull the chain up , if broken . Or even better yet pull the oil cap an spin engine , does the cam move .

Before you replace a part you may or may not need . Why ? What code ? Does the vehicle run ? There has been a lot of confusion on these vehicles with variable valve timing , mixing up cam sensors with camshaft actuators

DTC P0009: Engine Position System Performance Bank 2
The presence of DTCs P0008 and P0009 along with P0016, P0017, P0018, and P0019 indicates a possible condition with the primary timing chain and the alignment between both intermediate sprockets and the crankshaft. Or, the crankshaft reluctor wheel has moved and is no longer referenced to top dead center (TDC).

Camshaft Position (CMP) Actuator System
The camshaft position (CMP) actuator system is an electro-hydraulic operated device used for a variety of engine performance and operational enhancements. These enhancements include lower emission output through exhaust gas dilution of the intake charge in the combustion chamber, a broader engine torque range, and improved fuel economy. The CMP actuator system accomplishes this by changing the angle or timing of the camshaft relative to the crankshaft position. The CMP actuator simply allows earlier or later intake and exhaust valve opening during the four stroke engine cycle. The CMP actuator cannot vary the duration of valve opening, or the valve lift.
During engine OFF, engine idling conditions, and engine shutdown, the camshaft actuator is held in the Park position. Internal to the CMP actuator assembly is a return spring and a locking pin. During non-phasing modes of the camshaft, the return spring rotates the camshaft back to the Park position, and the locking pin retains the CMP actuator sprocket to the camshaft

I would replace your cam shaft position sensor. It can cause the car to start hard and run bad if it is bad. Let me know what engine you have and I will be able to tell you where it is located.
