Question about 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

97 Jeep Grand Cherokee A/C compressor clutch will not engage.

A/c compressor clutch will turn freely by hand but controls will not cause it to engage. All the dash controls work as expected. I cannot find a diagram of the fuses and what they control so checking them one at a time is more bother than it will be worth. I guess I am headed for the shop.
Thanks

Thanks, I didn't realize low freon could keep the compressor from functioning. I had found the AC fuse under the hoob but another site said there was a mini fuse under the dash that might be affecting it. But the diagram on the fuse box cover wasn't a lot of help.

I will try the freon and see what happens.

The fuse for ac is under the hood. the lid usually when you flip them open on that tell you what is what. if fuse is good you may have just lost enough freon to keep compressor from kicking in.

Ac won't get cold anymore power to compressor but won't click on clutch won't engage possible problems are compressor or evaporator what do you think?

Has the Freon been checked with a gauge to see if there is enough Freon to allow the system to work. Low or no Freon will not allow the compressor to engage. The low pressure switch is most likely activated due to low freon, and will cause this condition.

2004 jeep grand cherokee a/c compressor clutch cycles on and off. a/c works fine when clutch is engaged.

Hi,
Looks like the a/c compressors relay is malfunctioning. Replace the relay with a similar one.
Hope that helps you out!

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. AC problem. Fan and inside controls have power but compressor clutch not engaging. I am thinking that there may be a relay that is out. Any suggestions for troubleshooting...

The compressor clutch won't engage unless there is freon in the system. Connecting a gauge to the low pressure port should tell you if there is. Pressure in a system that isn't running varies with the outside temperature.

No cold air for a.c.

Well Bruno it sounds like you lost freon from your a/c system. The cabin filter wont restrict you from getting cold air.Check that your a/c clutch engages when you turn it on.if it dont you need freon and have to check for leaks

My a/c is not working in my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I suspect the A/C clutch is not engaging. In general, how much does this cost to repair? Thanks!

If the clutch is not engaging, the system could just be low on refrigerant. That's about a $300 job these days with the cost of refrigerant. If the clutch or compressor are bad, then you're in the $500 - $1000 range probably -- just a guess, but it'll give you an order of magnitude.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd 4.0L A/C problems

this is most likely a a lack of r-134a (as freon is no longer used), if your system is completely out or close to it then the pressure sensor will not allow the compressor clutch to engage, it is also possible that there is an electrical issue but less likely. to know for sure you need to put some gauges on the system
