As far as the a/c you might want to have someone turn it on while you look to see if the clutch is working, it could be locked up.

Are you getting a check engine light? I would get the codes read if thats the case. I have had a similar problem on my vehicle (2004 ford freestar) and it turned out to be a faulty o2 sensor and dirty MAF (mass air flow) sensor. The MAF should be located on air intake between air filter and throttle body. There is a product that is designed to spray clean MAF sensor, you can also try throttle body cleaner, spray directly into throttle body. Its also possible that a fuel filter or cat is clogged. I wouldnt focus on AC as that was just a symptom of an overloaded system, the AC creates such a draw that burdens an already unhealthy fuel system.

2000 grand marquis turned ac on and car died

The compressor could be locked up which would stop the engine when the a/c clutch engages.

My ford focus has started humming in front end

this sounds like a hub bearing, to determine which one it is when your driving and you here the noise turn the steering wheel slightly left and then slightly right, the noise should get louder or lighter. If louder on right turn then it would be left bearing is bad because your putting more weight on the left side

Car turns off if ac or window deforst turn on even low setting

Well, The problem seems to be the AC unit. When you activate window defrost the ac unit also activates for some reason. Disconnect the wires from the AC unit and turn on the defrost, if the engine doesn't stop then you know that is the problem, if it does die then you have a vacum problem.

Hi ,
You need to have the fault codes read, this will point you in the right direction, the revs die as it is going into limp home mode to protect itself,by turning the ignition off and then on you reset the ecu untill it detects the fault again.

Ford focus 1.8 1999 engine turns over but won't start

you may not have enough fuel presur yet. try this -
turn key to on, listen for fuel pump noise (humming) for about 5 seconds. If no hum, you have a problem. If it hums, good. Now, turn key off for 30 seconds and turn key to "on" again. Repeat 5 times. Then try to start car.

The fel pump does run in "start" mode continually.
