You need to run the engine to allow the trans fluid to get hot the dip stick will have 2 marks the correct level is for the fluid to be between marks, also sniff the oil on stick and if smells 'burnt' change the trans fluid dont just top it up , the movement problem could be to do with the trans fluid but may be more involved but worth doing the fluid first
All I did is put one in it and then after a hr of driving it got stuck in first for like 20 min then started shifting again but when its hot the dipstick only at the cold mark I didn't want to put to much in it what oil dose it take maybe the parts place gave me the wrong stuff
you might have to add more but i would do a fluid change , the fluid is just standard autobox fluid/oil dont get one that says multi use ie power steering as well ,follow this link for advic eon full fluid change which i would recomendhttp://www.ehow.com/how_4854508_change-t...
Very important: The engine must be running with transmission in park. No need to warm up as there is a mark for hot or cold check.
Ok so I can use Dex/merc oil thanks I will do that
good luck

SOURCE: My 1998 Toyota sienna will not start
The battery may be dying and does nothave the juice to turn the crank.
SOURCE: i changed transmision fluid of toyota sienna 1998
Changing the fluid will never harm your trans unless you do not fill it back up.
Reverse is all hydrolic. There is no electrical that could cause it. If you have park and forward, you don't have a lincage problem.
As much as I feel for you, (I satarted rebuilding transmissions in the 80's) you will have to get it rebuilt.
Sorry
SOURCE: Where's my dip stick?
theres no dip stick ,there are to plugs on trany one on the bottom to drain and one on the side, remove the side one oil is full when it starts to flow out,but caution dont star removing bolts unless your sure could cause trany damage on some tranys,go to a oil and lube shop have them lift truck and check takes 5 to 10 minutes, good luck.
