1998 Hyundai Accent possible dead cylinder

Can anyone help me? In November there was a little **** you could feel from the engine mainly when going 65 mph or so. Scanned it for codes and it said multiple cylinder misfire. I changed the spark plugs because that was the most common reason for this. It was worse after we changed them. On the left 2 old spark plugs they had a thick coating of oil. I think that is related to the problem. So I changed the spark plug wires and the problem just kept getting worse. I kept running it till about February or March (which I shouldn't have done) and now its sitting. It will start but doesn't like to run. It will make it around the block but even that is not recommended. It smokes alot (burning oil?) and the engine vibrates alot. my brother said it is probably a dead cylinder. Does anyone know how to fix this? Or do I need to replace the whole engine?

For that year and that car it would be cheaper to go get you a 400 buck junkyard motor and swap the two out. much more cost effective. if you are not mechanically inclined if you buy the motor you should be able to find someone to swap it out for you around 600-900 bucks depending on your area. You can look on craigslist to find a side mechanic in your area. they are way cheaper than the repair shops because they dont have the over head.

My suggestion is to take the valves apart and remove the valve seals and see if the rubber is very hard since at this point it looks like a possible engine replacement anyways. Nearly every time I have serviced an Accent with oil consumption problems, valve seals solved the problem.

Will the clutch plate out of a 1998 Hyundai Accent fit in a 2005 Hyundai Accent? As well as the Slave cylinder?

go to a spares shop and see if the part numbers are the same
I feel that it will be the same but due to the vagaries of engineering you have to check first
are you positive that it is the clutch as a faulty master cylinder will cause the plate slip giving the same indication as a failing clutch

1998 Hyundai Accent p0300 random multiple misfire

that particular vehicle has a distributor-less ignition system. completely stand alone and electronic. change around the known good coils and see if the misfires on the computer change. see, what the trouble codes say is your numbers 1 thru 4 cylinders are misfiring inadvertently. if you move the coils around, which there are 4..one to 2 cylinders and if its 4 bad coils giving problems then the codes will move around. it could be the crankshaft tone wheel or the PCM as well. take it to a good diagnostic facility like a hyundai facility if you want it fixed right the first time. the hyundai parts are a little more expensive but they are the BEST part for your car, OEM parts are the way to go and the mechanic has probably seen this before and can tell you whats wrong before you leave easily.
