Is this a molex connection or a 3 pin connection?

if its a molex please check the connections in side the plastic part,

if its a 3 pin connector then its the fan that's faulty

Is there a censor thast would shut the motor off if it got too hot/ I And It will not stasrt at all now.. Prior to this I had just had a termastat installed, drove it 5-20 miles it overheted and hasn't...

yes....the computor shuts it down ....there is a tempature sensor that threads into the block this send s a signal to the computor ...also a sensor may be on the radiator as welll to kick in the fans
.....also check your engine main fuses ....ignition relays..etc......dose the engine turn over ...if it were over heatede you could have warped a head and not getting compression as well

Car runs hot

If it was the thermostat, it would run hot all the time. Sounds more like the electric cooling fans are not working. Either the fans themselves are not working, or the coolant temperature sensor is bad and not sending a signal to the computor to turn them on. Have the fans checked first, then go for the sensor if it isn't the fans.

Radiator fan is not working. I tested the blower motor and it works.

The fan is controlled by a relay in the electrical box and the relay is controlled by the engine computor and the computor is controlled by the engine temperature sensor sender on the engine block. Start with checking the temperature sensor sender.

Freelander heater switch 1997

the fan works at different speeds by switching to a different resister for the given speed. A common fault is the resister pack has a thermal overload/cutout which over time corrosion sets in and it breaks down. When you find the pack [normally under bonnet and in the motor cowling ]although not necessarily, you will see agroup of wires 4/5 remove the pack locate the thermal cutout ,bridge it and test ,if the fan works on all speeds #replace the unit# , we don't want a fire do we??. the information that i have supplied is for general electrical principles , and unless your freelander has computor controlled heating the principles will be the same. if it is computor controlled it could get expensive .Good luck i hope that i have helped in some way. Pat.
