2005 Chevy Equinox sunroof problems

For some reason the thing will not stay closed....for instance when you shut the vehicle off, it is suppose to full shut(and seal itself form water leaks) but mine closes, raises up shut tight, the lowers about a half inch or so, so water can leak in the back side of it.... while the vehicle is running and i shut it, it shuts completely tight, but if i roll down other windows it does the same thing...lower about a half inch.... so my question is.... is this a serious electricl problem through the car, or just a bad motor?

according to your info, it is a factory sunroof as there is no seal around the painted surface

  • thebozz333 Jun 26, 2009

It responds to the control switch, all windows, including sunroof have power. the issue is when you shut the vehicle off, its programed to shut the sunroof, but instead it seems like it leaves it in a vented poistion, not fully up and closed. also seems to drop to a vented position when you open other windows while driving, as if its an electrical surge hiting the sunroof motor. so my question is, should my next step still be replace the sunroof control module first?

Is this a factory sunroof? You can tell by looking at the roof where the glass seals. A factory roof seals directly onto the painted surface, but an add on aftermarket one will have a black frame around it that the glass seals on. I ask because this sounds like something an aftermarket roof would do.

Some customers may comment that the sunroof will no longer respond to the control switch while in a vented, partially opened, or fully opened position.
Cause A software issue with the sunroof control module may cause the sunroof control module to incorrectly indicate a "closed" position, which may result in no power to the sunroof motor.
Correction Verify the customer concern. If a condition is present, replace the sunroof control module with a new sunroof control module, P/N 15847643. Refer to the Service Procedure in this bulletin.
Service Procedure

  1. Verify the customer concern by opening and closing the sunroof. • If the sunroof will not open , check the power windows. - If the power windows are also inoperative, check the fuse. If the fuse has opened, refer to Corporate Bulletin Number 05-08-64-004 to install 30A circuit breaker. - If the power windows are fully functional, refer to "Power Sunroof Inoperative" diagnostics (SI Document ID# 1392967) in the Body section of the 2005 Chevrolet Equinox or Saturn VUE Service Manual. • If the sunroof will open (or is already open), but will not close , proceed to Step 2.
  2. Replace the sunroof control module. Refer to "Sunroof Control Module Replacement" procedure in the Body section of the 2005 Chevrolet Equinox Service Manual (SI Document ID# 1196049) or Saturn VUE Service Manual (SI Document ID# 1710479).
  3. Open and close the sunroof in order to confirm that the customer concern has been resolved.

The control module is what determines when to send power to the motor. That would be the most likely cause. Since this is a locked software module ,it can't be reprogrammed, therefore must be replaced. Remember, all electrical parts are non returnable once plugged in, so make sure the diagnostic charge you are saving by attempting the repair are worth the possibility of guessing wrong.

I have a land rover freelander 2002, the window from the tail gate door goes down by itself and stays down. The window goes up fine but when it closes all the way up, comes right back down. This problem...

I've had something like this happen a couple of times.

The cure in both instances (and probably will be in yours) is the 'recalibration' of the window lift system.

It IS in the user handbook, but here is the procedure anyway.

1 Ensure the tail door is closed, the vehicle unlocked and the alarm disarmed.
2 On 3 door models, ensure the roof is on (hard back) or lowered and secured (soft back).
3 With the ignition on, use the console switch, or the vehicle key in the tail door lock, to raise the window until the
motor stalls with the window fully closed.

(the holding the switch on until the motor 'stalls' is the key thing - you MUST allow the motor to stall)

4 Switch off the ignition.

If the calibration procedure is unsuccessful, the CCU will sound a warning for approximately 0.8 second and fully lower
the window.
Tail door window calibration can fail for the following reasons:
l Window stops before minimum travel is achieved.
l Window does not achieve a stall.
l Window request removed before stall is achieved.
l Tail door opened while driving window up.

Popping noise under the dash

start fiddling with the controls of the panel the cables to the air flows is either stretched or the insect that creeped in is blocking the automation seal and maybe exerting itself to achieve the command . for instance if the full cold is commanded then back the command off a mark or two so that it wont keep forcing itself to full throttle when it actually can't.

Wont stay on

Hello
The engine and transmission in this cars drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM (Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPEDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM

The sun roof won't close all the way shut. it opens ok and closes but won't lock shut

there shoulde be a hand crank (looks like a bent up allen wrench type thing) in the glove box...
there is a small hole in which it fits on the roof pannel... hand crank it tight to seal from inclimate weather.
Sounds like the switch is misalligned somehow.. and is stoping the glass short of full closed..
Open the glass full open and check the track area for debries and clear it out if there is any found.

use the tool to close the roof fully ...

I have a 1997 volkswagen jetta gl 2.0 and while i was driving suddenly my alarm goes off, so i shut off the car and go outside to unlock the doors and lock them to shut off the alarm but that doesnt work,...

I have heard of VW's of this era having issues with water getting on the alarm module board, which causes the alarm to go off without rhyme or reason. I believe the seal around the water deflectors near the windshield cracks or degrades. The alarm module should be under the hood near the windshield on the driver's side, under a plastic cover. If you can locate it, you could try drying it off and seeing if that helps.
An alternative is that the wiring in the door could be getting wet, if the seals are no longer good.
If you just need to make it *******, remove the fuse for the horn, if you can find it.

Water\coolant leaking from engine after shutting engine down

It takes a lot more than a small leak to consider your engine as "totaled"
Have the system pressure tested and carefully inspected. Every leak has a source. some are easy to find, some are a bit more difficult. A shop can use a fluorescent dye and a black light to locate the source if you can't.
I'd check the corners of the intake manifold and timing chain housing. Also, check the hoses again. A small pin-hole can squirt coolant far away from the hole itself and is often very difficult to see.

2003 Ford Explorer wiper stays on after vehicle is turned off

Every wiper motor has a switch built into it that is supposed to shut off the wiper when it reaches it's 'home' position. Apparently that is getting stuck. If you're brave you can try taking it a apart and check it out, otherwise you probably need a new motor.

My poor car has been having a few symptoms lately. For some reason, my trunk is soaking wet, and also the passenger side floors (both front and back) though not as wet as the trunk. My AC has not been...

Easiest way to figure it out, toss a friend in the trunk with a flashlight and grab a hose.
Pour all around the seal with the trunk closed, wouldn't surprise me if it's worn or falling off considering you're having trouble closing the trunk as well.
Do the same for all the doors, sunroof if you have and windshield .
Those seals normally aren't hard to replace and an easy way to make sure the new ones don't leak is to grease them before winters, some white grease works well, not the prettiest thing but it keeps the rubber from freezing and cracking.

Boot lid wont stay shut and it shows it open on the instrument panel, it shuts but still shows it as open and then pops open when you are driving

try cleaning the lock itself then lubricating it and work the { boot / trunk }until it works in a bit ...does it appear as if it needs an adjustment ..as you close it do the lock and the striker match up within a reasonable catch distance otherwise an adjustment can be made .

the light will stay on if the switch does not make the necessary closed position allowing the circuit to remain open .again this would require an adjustment

has the vehicle been in an accident or the trunk disturbed to cause this ?

if not perhaps the switch itself needs an adjustment or is worn can the switch plate be lowered by bending the plate or can you adjust it otherwise .

Trunk is full of water! 1997 Sentra

How do you know the trunk seal is not leaking? Did you sit in the closed trunk while someone sprayed copious amounts of water over it? The other most common leak spot is from one of the tail lights. There is a goopy material that goes aroung the tail light that is supposed to seal it. You can usually pick this up at a auto supply store. It can also be coming from a body seam in the trunk. Check the lights and then check the body seams.
