Brake light switch

asking where is it? its located on the brake pedal up near the pedal bracket. when pedal is depressed, the switch completes contact to power to brake lights. If you look at it, the plunger will move out when pedal depresses.

Gear shift will ot come out of park

There is a shift lock override switch near the shifter, located under a small hole in the housing (possibly covered by a small plastic cap). Insert a punch in hole to depress switch, shift out of park while switch is depressed.

My dome lights on my 1996 pontiac grand am will not turn off.

Has your Grand Am been in bad winter (dirty) weather? Locate the door accentuator on each door...these are located near the inside of each hinge...one for each door...You have the right part if you can depress the spring loaded push pin...lubricate each of these push pins thoroughly with PB Blaster, or WD-40...(both available even at Walmart automotive:) If all of these are fine...the dome light switch on your dash is bad...Hope this helps.

2007 Cadillac SRX rear tail light stays illuminated after taking foot off brake, also comes on and off, flicker, without brakes depressed.

your brake switch needs adjustment, located down under dash on brake bracket, when the brake is depressed it lets the switch out, and when the brake is not depressed the switch is in. adjust the switch by screwing it closer to the pedal so it gets depressed more, usually 2 turns will do it

Door ajar light stays on-inside light won't go off

One of the switches for the light is is broke. The switch is located in the door frame. When the door closes it depresses the switch button. If the button is broken or worn down it won't depress enough to shut of the light. You will have to locate each switch and test for proper operation. The tailgate probably has one also.

Cannot shift out of park without using the over ride button under the center console. What is causing this?

Check fuses could be blown fuse. Or another possibility could be brake pedal switch. Brake pedal must be depressed to release shifter from park. Also try and check voltage at solenoid that releases the shifter from park. The solenoid should be located under the shifter, power should only be there when brake is depressed. If voltage is not present with or with out brake depressed than check fuse and switches before solenoid. If voltage is present with brake depressed and no action occurs at the solenoid than that definitely means it is bad. hope you get it fixed..

WON'T START, MAY BE RELATED TO THE CLUTCH SWITCH?

If there is one its under the dash someware around the clutch peddel arm, it should look like the breaklight switch with a spring loaded pin that pushes in or relieses out( depending on witch way its set up) when you depress the clutch peddel, or it could be under the hood, either way its got to work off the clutch peddel.

Break lights do not light when break pedal depressed. Fuse #13 is ok.

Check the brake pedal switch that is located behind the brake pedal arm. There should be an open contact switch that operates the lights when the switch is depressed. It is generally adjustable and needs to be moved back to where it presses on the arm again when the pedal is depressed.

Good luck!!

1998 ford escort wagon brake lights out. bulbs and fuses changed.

Sounds like your brake light switch has gone bad. It is located on your brake pedal and is easy to change and relatively inexpensive. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!
