Question about 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

My 1998 grand Cherokee headlights won't turn off. I have pulled the relays out one at a time and the lights stay on. I have removed the dim bright switch from the steering column and the lights still stay on. I have checked the light switch itself and the light still stay on.

Two items to check. headlight relays and body control module. Also make sure firewall and dash grounding is good. Might also be a multi-function switch internal problem (part of directional switch) You need to test or without fail, you'll change everything and the last part changed will be the one with the problem.
Get a decent manual and a test light or better, volt meter.

Head lights stay on when lights are turned off

Pull the headlight relay out of the socket, this should turn them off. The relay maybe be stuck internally, causing the lights to remain on. The relay is located in the PDC box under the hood. it is a black box with a removable lid, and the under side of the lid gives you a diagram of where each relay is. Replace this relay.

98 Jeep Grand Cherokee, The low beam lights went out, the high beams work OK. Has anyone found the common problem yet with this issue? 101,000 miles.

If your headlight switch is the type you pull out, left of the sterr column on dash, switches tend to go bad, I replaced mine and only had 50,000 miles. try checking headlight relay in engine fuse box first.

How to remove a headlamp assy from a 1998 jeep grand cherokee

I believe the headlight assembly just pulls straight out. There are locating lugs on the headlight assembly which line up with corresponding lugs on the body work. There is also a problem with the headlight glass falling out as well. Replacements can be bought at the right price on e'Bay.

The headlights are on a relay and maybe its getting weak. I would have it checked and replaced because it could go out and stay out.
God Bless Greg
Oh yeah most of the time it is built into the head light switch.
