Flucuating oil pressure guage

Oil pressure guage is flucuating but engine never acks like it has lost oil pressure. only does it when it is warmed up. I thought it might be the sensor but it is under the intake and would be a bear to get to ,probably would have to remove intake . 2004 chev pu 6.0

It is normal for you oil pressure to to rise and fall
base on how you are driving ,if your sitting at idle your pressure will be lower that if you driving at 50 or 60 mph.

Why does oil pressure fluckulates

Well it could be a faulty pressure sensor, or you could really have a problem with the oil pump or engine. As the engine warms up the oil gets thinner and pressure can drop if the engine is worn out.
You can check the oil pressure by using a mechanical gauge and bypass the gauge on the dash.

Oil gauge

cold oil is thicker, higher rpm=more pressure .factory guage is actually working like it should. if worried hook external guage on oil galley plug and check oil press.manually.

2000 GMC Savanna, oil pressure guage drops to

You need to pull the pressure sensor and install a manual test gage, (borrow from Autozone or other chain part store) that is the only way to verify the engine is not loosing oil pressure.

Oil pressure question

Hello daebbers: My name is Roger and I will be glad to help you. I assume by the way your question is written you have no objectionable engine noise. I would suspect a bad oil pressure sending unit. To check the switch will require a mechanical oil presser test. You can buy a kit at any parts store. With a cold engine. Remove the oil switch from the block. Install the mechanical gauge. after all connections are tight start the engine. Note where the pressure is at. Observe the pressure through engine warm up. As the oil and engine warm up the oil pressure will drop. According to All Data information the oil pressure at curb idle is 6 psi. This would be a min. oil pressure. If the oil pressure is higher then that is great also. Any thing less you have a internal oil leak. This would likely be a bearing issue.

Check the oil pressure with a test guage, if the finding are the same, the look at your oil filter, pump, pickup, or pressure relief valve.....
