Question about 1995 Buick LeSabre

1 Answer

1995 3.8L Buick surges at ~50 mph and ~70 mph

I have cleaned the IAC and the problem continues. SOmetimes it will stall when coming to a gentle stop. The rpms drop from 1000 to 500 and recover sometimes. Other times it drops to a stall.

Fuel trim will help,if the number are both positive at idle and go positive at a higher RPM you dealing with a fuel issue. There beem times the pressure regulator acts up,The EGR wont be the problem, you are stalling at idle,The famous crank, cam or ignition module, use a voltmeter or labscope measure the crank signal out put if its lower than 5 volts the ECM wont give a fuel signal.and the cam will not sychronize,I am going with the most popular failure a crank sensor as the solution,

I have a 1992 Buick Roadmaster that stalls sometimes when coming to a stop or making slow turns(turning into a parking space, for example). I've changed the egr, vacuum solenid, distributor, cap and rotor...

Have you cleaned the intake manifold, you can get this at an auto supply store, sometimes deposits build up and block off air causing stalling when idling. just use according to instructions. If that doesn't help check fuel filter, fuel pump pressure, and all ground connections from battery and motor to body ground strap. These can become coeeoded underneath and cause all kinds of problems

Clean the sensor wire in the mass air flow sensor. Remove the tamper proof screws to remove the sensor holder and clean off the wire with carb spray or brake cleaner. Do not touch the wire with hands or rags.

1996 eclipse w/ 4 cyl / 5 sp trans...simple, plain model. When cold, starts and then stalls as soon as you lift your foot off the gas pedal.. Continues like this until engine warms up, then all's AOK (...

remove hose going to intake, clean intake plenum with a rag soaked with cleaner,do not spray into plenum because you will damage the iac motor, once you remove all the build up inside the housing it should idle-good luck

Low idle

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle rough idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
