    aren't the freeze plugs on the side of the block on a 300 six?

The freeze plug on the back of the engine block is leaking,the transmission and flywheel will need to be removed to get to it.

Could also be a bad head gasket leaking back from the water jacket in the back of the block!??? it will run down the bell housing you REALLY need to clean it and do a pressure test to pinpoint it otherwise you are pissing in the wind!

There is a cover or back plate on Bell Housing of 1987 Ford Ranger 2.9 4wd. Does anyone know the size of the bolts that are used to attach that cover to the Bell Housing?
You need to remove the transmission to get that plate off and the started . 6 for the bell housing 2 for the started .4WD is tougher its a lot of work .

Cracked bell housing
My initial thought is Aluminum can be welded. Depends on cracks relationship to mounting bolts. Check and see if Bell housing is separate from transmission. May be able to swap bell housings and keep transmission.

You may want a good Salvage yard site like Carparts.com. They have a Nationwide link to many Salvagers. One request and you could get 300 responses.

No the bolt spacing is different you will have to find a bell housing for a 302 or 351c. The spacing on a 351 modified is also different. Hope I helped.

Hello: This was (and is) a common problem with the northstar engine. The gasket design/composition has been changed three times. The gasket on the thermostat housing needs to be replaced.
