Go back to where they changed it. The fuel level sensor is inside the tank. Either they didn't plug it in or there is a bad connection.

I have a 2005 pontiac montana and i am having trouble with it over heating, i have changed the water pump, thermostat, heat sending unit, drained and flushed the radiator and purged the air out of the...

Sean I have a 2004 Montana and mine is also overheating. I just paid Pep Boys $300 to replace thermostat and it is still overheating. They checked for coolant leaks, water pump is okay, the pressure checked out ok. No air in the system, etc. Today I brought it to a different mechanic and he says my cooling fan is kicking in very slow after the temp gauge goes 3/4 up which is not supposed to happen. My fan does not have a relay and he said it is either the temperature sending unit, but most likely it is the COMPUTER which is going to a very, very expensive repair. He said this happens a lot with Montanas! I am pissed. I just bought it used and the previous owner probably dumped it b/c he knew it needed a computer. Also the Fuel gage does not work and it will cost $800 to replace the fuel tank which contains the fuel sensor.

Gas gage read full when empty and sometimes emty

You have a bad fuel level sensor. The fuel tank needs to come out and the sensor replaced. You don`t have to replace the pump assembly. You can get the level sensor separate.I`m not sure if the parts stores have it but I know the dealerships do.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Re fuel gage.

the fuel tank sending unit is defective in your van, this has nothing to do with the fuel pump going out, this was a 100% incorrect statement by the shop that said this, but do understand that if you pull the fuel tank to repair the defective sender for the gas guage u might as well replace the fuel pump which also is in the fuel tank, they (the pump) are are getting worn out at about the miles you have on this car.

Fuel pump not working in 2001 Pontiac Montana

It is always possible that you have a bad pump, it happens. If your sure the pump it not working it could be a number of things. Did you replace the filter (if it has a exterior one)? A clogged filter can trigger premature failure of a fuel pump. It could be a blown fuse or relay. What does the engine do when you turn it over? Does it fire at all?
