What can cause my northstar engine to overheat

Check the radiator fluid, if there is a leak or not enough your engine would likely have problems cooling.

My 1995 cadillac seville sts is over heating i flushed system put in new radiator new cap new thermostat new hoses new pump new fluid there is no leaks i dont understand

The most common overheating problem with the Northstar engine is a blocked purge line(small hose). The purge line is designed to purge air out of the cooling system.
There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank (not the cap) ,this is the purge line.
With the engine idling, pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating.
If the hose is clear, check for blockage at the nipple on the tank.Or trace the hose back until you find the blockage.
The hose goes in to the engine to a crossover and comes out the other side close to the thermostat housing, the blockage may be there.

98 Cadillac Northstar motor running hot in 30 min.

The normal operating temperature for the Northstar engine is around 210 degrees.
The fans will not come on until the temp hits 225 degrees.

The thermostat in the northstar engine is located at the bottom radiator hose (unlike most conventional cooling systems).

If the other end of your purge line is not connected to anything then that is the problem......it must be reconnected otherwise the cooling system is not pressurized.

How to remove a radiator from a 1988 cadillac seville

1988 Cadillac Seville 4.5L TBI 8cyl Repair Guide
Radiator - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

On the 8-250 and 8-273 engines use only a coolant solution specifically designed for use in aluminum engines.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Disconnect the air conditioning compressor, if so equipped, and position it out of the way without disconnecting the hoses.
  4. Remove the clamp that holds the air conditioning high pressure vapor line to the cradle.
  5. Loosen the hose clamps and disconnect the upper and lower radiator hoses.
  6. Disconnect the two transmission cooler lines and plug them.

Disconnect the heater return hose, if so equipped.
  1. Remove the two top radiator cradle clamps, straps or sheet metal cover and the fan shroud. Disconnect the reservoir hose from the filler neck.
  2. Remove the vacuum hoses, if so equipped. Mark them for proper installation.
  3. Pull the radiator straight up and out of the car.
  4. Reverse the above procedure for installation.

98 cadillac seville 4.6 overheating

are your fans or fan working if not it will get hot. I assume you have electric fans or fan if so make sure when it starts to overheat the fan or fans come on if not check the fuse for the fans or relay, breaker, wiring itself.

99 cadillac seville continues to overheat even though i put a new water pump

maybe the water pump wasnt the problem to begin with. if the engine temperature only goes up when you stop the car then most likely it is the FANS that are not engaging to cool the radiator which is a problem with the fan sensor, computer that controls the fans, relay/fuse. I had the same problem on my 1999 cady STS coming back from my vacation. the engine temperature would be normal only when I drove the car above 70km/hr because the air passing through the front of the car would cool the radiator. when I slowed down the fans wouldnt start and no air was passing through to cool the rad, hence the engine temperature would start to go to HOT. good luck.
