Here is the procedure that i use to isolate a battery drain. Remove negative battery cable from the battery. Using a 12-volt test light, hook one end to the negative battery post the other end to the negative battery cable you just disconnected. The test light will glow or "light" if there is a drain. If the "light or glow" is faint, that is probably normal draw for the clock or computer. If the "light or glow" is bright, then there is a large drain. That should be corrected. Now start removing and replacing the fuses one by one until the light goes out; that one will be the circuit with the drain. Remember to hold in the button in the door jam for the interior lights.

How can I find out what's draining my truck battery within 1 or 2 days after charging it? I've unplugged everything I could, but still experience battery drainage.

You have not unplugged everything - otherwise you would have found cause of drain. Hook up ammeter to battery and turn ignition off. Wait about a half hour - take reading on meter then and one by one disconnect and reconnect individual fuses until you find the circuit that has the item drawing the juice that is draining your battery.

I have a 1994 GMC Jimmy 4.3 vortec 4x4 automatic, and the transmission started to slip, then the battery died, we got it home and it wouldn't start, so we charged the battery and it ran fine for abou

You may potentially have an serious electrical drain in your car circuits. The drain is slow and continuous, draining your battery charge even if you do a start. Check the cabling and look for load on your battery with a Volt meter to check for any charge drainage. Check this as a precaution before replacing any more parts.

Randomly locking doors and sometimes continuous clicking leading to battery drainage.

If the locking seems continuous and almost glitchy I would buy new locks for both front doors. If it seems to be one timing lock and not acting glitchy then it most likely is a interference with a security alarm at that point I would disconnect the fuse for pwr locks as a quick fix.

What is draining the battery

Someone will need to disconnect the battery and check each circuit for a drain. You may need a shop manual to get the wiring diagrams to check every circuit.

Fuse 8 on 1990 allante is drawing down the battery. will completly drain battery in 2 days

Have you checked BCM input parameter BI61? That is the most common cause of the 2-3 day battery drain. Have you tried pulling fuse #8 under the ash tray for the CPS to see if that stops the drain? You can pull one of the plugs off the AC blower control module to isolate that. If you can not hear the blower motor running with the key off, that probably is not an issue.

2004 new beetle won't start in the am without a jump; once battery is jumped will stop and start all day till it sits overnight...next morning needs to be jumped again.

Hi, seems to me it's time for a new battery, probably the original battery in the car and 72 -78 months is a good useful life, however you can pull in to a place like auto zone ( I suggest at a time when they are not that busy, early a.m. ) and they will do a diagnostic check for free and check out the charging system , battery , and any drainage of current when everything is off for you but I'm sure it will be ok or it would not crank all day but the long over nite hours drains what little voltage that is in the battery. A battery that is bad will not fully charge because of a bad cell inside of it. Good luck, hope a battery fixes you up!!

'04 Chrysler Pacifica battery won't hold a charge for long. Sometimes it will be fine for months and then not start. Other times it won't last more than a day. I was thinking it must be a parasitic drain...

First try to understand if there is a parasitic drain.

Once you exclude the drain, replace the battery, a battery with shorted cells can cause the drain.

The firmware has nothing to do with drainage, unless the unit is factory defective.

To measure drainage remove ignition key, connect the amp meter between the battery positive wire connector and positive terminal.A couple of milliamps drainage is normal, and is caused by instruments, car stereo memory, ECU etc.
Start removing more fuses , and open the wiring at different points , trying to locate the problem.
Remove the fuses and see if you have drain by connecting a meter to read amps on battery, if you have drain with no fuse, then the problem is insulated to wiring harness before the fuse, with something shorted between the battery and the fuseblock.
Also check car stereo and car amp HU, the HU can keep a unit on when the ignition key is off, causing drain.

2006 Corolla LS battery continual drainage

difficult to accurately *****, you need to get the charging checked, even though you have a new alternater the problem could be as simple as the charging light not working, which causes the alternater to initiate. or you may have an electrical component staying on draining the battery.
