Put new belt on and try to start, If runs rough afterward run compression test to determine which cylinders have bent valves.

Depends on the answers you give :

If you were driving down the road when it broke I would say there is a 60 % chance of dammage to valve train

but if It broke durring or just after starting there is only a 10 % chance of dammage

replace belt observe all time marks ( Im assuming this is a 2.3L ) because 3.0 L dont use belts there gears
obtain a cyl pressure gauge (about 20 bucks off the internet) screw into spark plugs holes
one at a time
rotate engine slowly by hand (with large wrench on crank pully)

you should have a equall pressure +/- 5 psi in all cyl

if not find the odd cyl out (lower pressure) remove valve cover remove saddle rocker for that cyl only
(it's a bit tricky but if carefull you don't allways have to remove cam maybe only loosten it a bit as a last resort)
try again pressure come back Yes/no

if no yep you got a bent one and your gonna need to remove the head for that
if yes reaasemble saddle rocker reset static valve lash to factory specks (ck them all)

other than doing the work for ya thats all I can think of

If you stop it or turned off the engine right away, most likely there was no major damage. You can do a compression test to be sure.

2003 ford ranger need timingmarks my beltbroke

I've never done one on a Ranger, but most timing gears have alignment marks that you line up before you install the belt. Don't forget to replace the belt tensioner while you're at it.

Does 2001 Mitsubishi Galant have and overheating failsafe

Sorry to say the 4 cyl is an interference engine and I think the V6 is too. So odds are the valves are bent if the belt broke while the engine was running.

1998 ford ranger with 2.5 4 cylinder engine timing belt broke need to replace it need to know correct placement of timing marks on camshaft

If the belt broke then the head will have to come off because the valves will be bent. Talk to the re-conditioner shop and they will explain where the marks are and how to do the job.

Timing belt broke on 1999 ford ranger

You are extremely lucky as your Ranger 2.5 L is not an interference engine so you will have no internal engine damage. Both V6 engines use a timing chain and do not use a belt so you must have a 4 cylinder. The belt on your 2.5L should have been replaced at 120,000 miles or 10 years. All you need to do is have a new belt installed and inspect the tensioner and you will be good to go. You will need a Gates belt # T276. Unless you are skilled have the belt replaced by a professional.

Just replaced my timing belt on my 96 ford ranger, when i crank it up it jumps and sputters, could my valves be bent?

I hate to disagreed with anyone, but on a 2.3L, will not bent valve, no matter what speed the engine was turning, 3.0L and 4.0L both have timing chains, so you must have a 4 cylinder 2.3L, check this out make sure you align the camshaft and crankshaft, remove #1 cylinder, and turn crank till piston is all the way up, that will be TDC, hope this was very helpful.

I have 98 ford ranger 2.5 that broke the timing belt; What type of internal engine problems might I be looking at? I replaced the belt and did a compression test and have 0 compression.

Hello gandolfph: My name is Roger and I will help with your question. I have Alldata and Mitchell on demand programs. I looked at both and neither one says this is a interference motor. That is where the valves bend if the belt breaks. I would go back and make sure the engine is propperly timed. If the cam or crankshaft are not right your compression would not be right. You can also remove the valve cover and look at the valves closely. Look for any rocker arm that is not against the cam shaft. If the valve is stuck down and not touching the camshaft. then the valves were bent. Should you need further help please just ask. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

The timing belt is broke, how can reemplace and

Take off the alternator belt, tensor, fan and cap of timing belt, review the mark of cranshaft pulley must be in 10grades BTC The grades are on the cap, then review the mark valves pulley and put the timing belt (Note disconect the battery in order to delete the failure) placement again all the parts and thats all.
